Never said Romney was the perfect conservative, or the perfect Republican, or the perfect anything.
It's just that he was the strongest, most articulate, most able to speak the conservative message out of ALL the Republican candidates in '08.
If there was someone out there better, I'd have been there.
A reasoned conservative could see that McCain was feeble and boring and anti-everything (except proLife) that I believe in.
Fred didn't want it. Never did.
Rudy .... is a nice guy who is waaay to left on everything.
Hucklebee is a cool speaker but would have been eaten for lunch as a Baptist evangelical preacher .... which is fine with me but turns off too many in American politics.
Duncan Hunter .... strong as an ox... but doesn't have the personality to be a viable candidate.
I forget the others, but suffice it to say that Romney was the only one with a snowballs chance who could speak to both conservatives ... and the middle.... and women... and some youth.... which is exactly what it takes to win.
But... but... how did OBAMA win??
If Romney had won, conservatism would have lost. Your opinion of his abilities and attirbutes is just that — opinion, not fact. I don’t find him articulate or even captable of speaking “the conservative message.” On the contrary, his words are ample evidence that he is so inarticulate that he must rely on gratuitous platitudes, such as “It’s high time to put America’s kids first and leave union bosses behind,” or “The interests of the nation come first.”
Excellent analysis and exactly the way I and many Romney supporters see it. There isn’t a word I disagree with. Well, done!
