Specter Calls for ‘Revolution’ and ‘Uprising’ Against Republicans 'Far to the Right' Thursday, April 30, 2009 By Josiah Ryan, Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) - There ought to be a “rebellion” and an “uprising” against right-wing elements that are trying to purify the Republican Party, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said Tuesday, shortly after he announced he would leave the Grand Old Party to become a Democrat.

Specter said Republicans "far to the right" in the party, who are more worried about ideology than winning elections, have brought about one costly defeat after another for the GOP, including the tabling of 34 of President Bush’s nominees for federal judgeships. Those defeats were the result of the right’s opposition to moderates in the party, such as himself, said Specter.

“They [Republicans on far right] don’t make any bones about their willingness to lose the general election if they can purify the party,” Specter said at his Tuesday press conference. “I don’t understand it, but that’s what they say.”

“And for the people who are Republicans to sit by and allow them to continue to dominate the party … there ought to be a rebellion,” he said. “There ought to be an uprising.”

How bright are the Pennsylvanians if those in Murtha’s district re-elected him, even after to crapped directly on them.

It’s amazing that just over 230 years ago our country was born in Philadelphia!!

People in PA will always believe in him, even when he ceases to believe in himself, which also will never happen. Where’s Joan these days?

McConnell ought to remove his committee assignments immediately.

It’s amazing that Cornyn, such a low-key figure as to be almost unnoticeable in a crowd, has won four or more statewide elections in TX. People in TX don’t even know who he is, but he keeps winning!

So the Republican party which has been a high tax, big government, invasive regulation party, is upset that the only one’s hanging around are the fundamentalist, anti abortion, social Republicans that want invasive, big government...basically, social conservative socialism...

What we have, effectively, are two, big government parties. The lefty European Democrat party, and the Republican big American Socialist type party.

who are more worried about ideology than winning elections
Is anyone else out there overwhelmed by the irony in that sentence? Pretty much says it all about today's politicians. Principles don't matter, it's winning the is important.

I wonder how our Founding Fathers would have reacted to such a comment?

I understood your comment :) ...although there are a few exceptions...Sessions comes to mind, maybe a couple of others, but not many.

There does seem to be an upper limit, but I believe it corresponds rather well with the degree of liberalism.

That’s because, as it hasd been all along, Specter believes in nothing nut manipulating the system. Like Collins and Snowe do too. Their power came from waiting for political showdowns, to betray Republicans, and cut deals advantageous to themselves, or their political careers. That’s why Specter doesn’t want to see Collins and Snowe kicked out of the GOP...He wants them there to be able to cut even more backstabbing deals with.

Moderates participating in an uprising?

LOL!! exactly. They'd have to stand for something first. What are they going to do revolt about nothing??
F’ng idiot!! I'm so glad he's a Dem “for real” finally, and no longer pretending to be a republican. If more RINOS go(see tag line); I'll join the party again.

F. Off Arlen! The party let you know that your traitorous ways are no longer welcome. So go away and preach your worthless BS to your new party, you will find a traitor is never really trusted by anyone.

Please don't insult us with how honorable you are, you are nothing more than a self serving politician, who if had any real honor would have retired. But no, you had to embarrass yourself and raised the level of hatred towards politicians.

“Until Tuesday, Specter was the ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, which reports federal judgeship nominations to the floor, and is highly influential in the confirmation process.

“President Bush nominated 13 circuit judges, but they were all left on the table for President Obama,” said Specter. “President Bush nominated 21 district court judges and they were all left on the table for Obama.”

“They beat Chafee and cost of us Republican control of the Senate and 34 federal judges,” said Specter.”

Weren’t some of these judges nominated before the Republicans lost control of the Senate and Specter was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee?

What's the use of the GOP winning elections if the winners legislate/govern just like Rats?
