Not trying to scare folks here, but this sounds pretty serious..yet Obama is not closing our borders!!

In fact, I just read that hundreds of Mexicans have trips booked from Mexico to the US for Cinco de Mayo.

CLOSE THE BORDERS!!

5 deaths equal a pandemic?

Only in a banana republic.

This may be encouraging though:(further in the article)

“Almost all cases outside Mexico have had mild symptoms, and only a handful have required hospitalization.

Masato Tashiro, head of the influenza virus research centre at Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Disease and a member of the WHO emergency committee, told Japan’s Nikkei newspaper it appeared the H1N1 strain was far less dangerous than avian flu.

“The virus is relatively weak and about the same as regular influenza viruses passed on via human-to-human contact. I don’t believe it will become virulent,” he was quoted as saying.

“The threat to health from the avian influenza and its fatality rate is much greater than the new flu,” he said.

“I am very worried that we will use up the stockpile of anti-flu medicine and be unarmed before we need to fight against the avian influenza. The greatest threat to mankind remains the H5N1 avian influenza.”

Chan urged companies who make the drugs to ramp up production. Two antiviral drugs — Relenza, made by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L) and Tamiflu, made by Roche AG (ROG.VX) and Gilead Sciences Inc (GILD.O) — have been shown to work against the H1N1 strain.”

I would think that Japan has alot of experience with this stuff. I tend to trust their experts at this point.

I was just going to say the same thing. CLOSE THE BORDERS.

But, Janet Napolitono said there was ‘no need’ to do that. Stupid.

And we can be sure that Mexico will be coming hat in hand seeking financial assistance from Uncle Gringo, the United Numbskulls, the World Bank, IMF, etc., to offset this terrible shutdown of the Mexican economy.

Meanwhile, as Cinco de Mayo approaches, it’s all day fiesta! All night siesta!

Don't take this too seriously (well, not too much, up to where it's worth...) Those five days are what's known in Mexico as a puente. When some holiday is near to a weekend nobody works anyway. There's even legislation to ensure the puente will happen if the holiday's in the weekend.

I wish I were making this up.

“yet Obama is not closing our borders!!”

He’s so afraid of losing Hispanics, that he is willing to RISK YOUR LIFE, rather than a be pro-active.

Ask your friends this imortant question:

IS OBAMUNISM WORTH DYING FOR?

OK, there’s a serious disconnect here.

Either the WHO is trying to downplay the situation in Mexico to prevent panic or the Mexican government is loosing it’s mind over nothing.

The Mexicans are saying that they have over 150 deaths and the WHO says that it’s just over half a dozen. That is a BIG difference people. Somebody’s full of it.

I hate to say it, but I can’t think of one reason for the Mexican government to shut down it’s entire economy for five days when they’re already suffering unless it’s really serious. The damage this will do to *them* is horrible.

Texas officials on Wednesday reported the first swine flu death outside Mexico, a 22-month-old Mexican boy on a visit.

It looks like the single US death is really a Mexican death.

Don't know if anyone else has commented on it but FNC just ran a story that even though Mexico has shut down, our border patrol agents are NOT allowed to wear protective masks or gloves at the border!

Only when in close contact with someone they think is sick are they allowed to pull out their masks. After they have finished with that person, they have to put the mask away. This is outrageous, IMO.

Even in the case of a near pandemic disease, we are sooo afraid we might hurt someone's feelings that we put our country at further risk.

In other news, the WHO gets with the program with information we knew THREE DAYS AGO and admits 154 people have the flu.......

Those idiots couldn’t find their butt with their face.

Frankly, I will listen to the state officials for the real numbers and any Freeper that pooh-poohed this based on the WHO doing so the other day has real egg on their face now...

Here’s a thought. What if this is phase 1 of a terrorist attack, and the purpose of this virus is to deplete our health care resources (including anti-virals) prior to release of a more serious virus?

Sorry, I know it’s a tinfoil hat theory, but it’s food for thought.

Anyone on this forum ever been to Mexico? Ever caught Montezuma's Revenge? Flu-like, no? Mexico is not a healthy place, especially for Americans and Europeans who don't have as robust a digestive tract. People get sick every day in Mexico and across the globe. The problem here is that bio companies are making a FORTUNE on this "crisis." While the people panic and government grabs more control of the private sector.

Some day Pelosi and Co. will decide that it would be better to kill 90 % of the world's population than to allow them the indignity to "suffer" the pains and tribulations of normal life.

This is one of ten major entry points from Mexico. This goes on 27/7, 365 days a year.

And the government won't shut this down?

Those in government refusing to secure our borders should be immediately arrested and prosecuted. Fill the jury with the infected.

I have 4 friends who laughed at me the other night as they have a cruise booked to Mexico in 2 weeks.

“Ohhh you worry too much...it will be over by then”

My neighbors just returned from Cozumel a few days ago...I told them I will see them in a few weeks after they have been checked out and the incubation period had passed.
