FOXWIRE: House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio could draw a primary next May from popular Butler County, Ohio Sheriff Rick Jones.
Jones has taken out petitions to potentially challenge Boehner.
Boehner has cruised to re-election in his southwest Ohio district since 1990. But Jones, known to locals as Spotlight Jones, for his penchant for drawing press, could prove to be a significant challenger to Boehner.
This is going to be first real race this district has seen in a long, long time, said Miami University (OH) political science department chairman Ryan Barilleaux. Rick Jones has the advantage of publicity. He has recognition in other areas outside Butler County.
Jones has required that sex offenders pay to register. He also drew headlines when he considered billing the White House when President Clinton visited the area years ago.
Jones is also outspoken on immigration and took out a newspaper ad last year challenging the positions of then GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

When can I see that some democrat has a GOP opponent?

Well, is Jones the better conservative choice?

This is a good thing. It keeps the incumbents from feeling too comfortable in their positions.

With a bruising primary, this sounds like another northern
Democrat pickup race.

If he loses to a random local Sheriff, he doesn’t deserve his position.

Boehner is doing better this year than previously, but I wonder how much of it is to keep his job and how much of it is totally sincere?
Anyone know?

This is one of the counties I volunteered in during the 08 elections. The TARP vote slayed Boehner at home and the locals don’t care for his forever-tan and choice in Washington friends.
Jones is VERY popular in this county. He’s also more conservative than Boehner on fiscal issues. I’ve never met Jones, but my political friends in Butler think Jones has a real shot of easily unseating Boehner and would be strong against any Democrat opponent.

I don’t know, I know he has Mike Pence in minority leadership now, so that may keep him in the straigh-and-narrow a little bit..?

Boenher is no liberal RINO but he’s a milqetoast leader and typical swamp fevered career pol.
Don’t worry Theodore R. this one of the most Republican seats in Ohio. I know seats that have been “safe” have been lost but this seat is really one of the least likely in the country to go rat.

I thought so, but he IS speaking up some. Possibly with my insistent emails to him as Leader of the House Republicans. It's a new thing for ANY Republican to speak up and speak out. Other than the RINO McCain.
The Media keeps trying to put McCain as spokesperson for the Republicans. McCain is stained with the sin of bi-partisanship. Newt is not a spokesperson for the Republicans either, except in his own mind. HE needs to give it up and write another book or be a guest speaker. Both men are OUT OF TOUCH with current Republicans.

Famous last words... But, Boehner has been in too long and is well in over his head. We need bombthrowers and damn the torpedoes types to use every trick in the book to sabotage the moonbat rodent agenda. When Boehner meekly handed over the gavel to Facelift D’Alesandro in January 2007, I knew this guy was NEVER going to be up to the task of leading the party.

Odd how he was the “nominee” for Speaker not Hastert.
“. When Boehner meekly handed over the gavel”
I didn’t watch. Meekly? Should he scratched his rear with it first? :D Or do the tug of war like Gephardt did?
