A worker at Radio Shack was arrested for punching a customer.

Officers arrested 52-year-old James Knol of Eau Claire on Sunday night for disorderly conduct and battery.

According to the police report, 56-year-old Leigh Carey was trying to return something at the Radio Shack on Clairemont Avenue.

Carey told investigators Knol wouldn't let him, so he asked to talk to a manager.

That's when he says Knol started punching him and a witness called 911.

Knol is due in court May 19.

For anyone who’s ever worked retail, the man is a hero.

That’ll teach that customer to refuse to provide his address when buying batteries!

Sunday night? So presumably the store was already closed - was that the problem?

LOL—I gave my address to Radio Shack as 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in DC. The clerk didn’t even blink.

M: Hello, I want to... Ooooh!
H: No, no, no. Hold your head like this, then go Waaah. Try it again.
M: uuuwwhh!!
H: Better, Better, but Waah, Waah! Put your hand there.
M: No.
H: Now..
M: Waaaaah!!!
H: Good, Good! That’s it.
M: Stop hitting me!!
H: What?
M: Stop hitting me!!
H: Stop hitting you?
M: Yes!
H: Why did you come in here then?
M: I wanted to complain.
H: Oh no, that’s next door. It’s being-hit-on-the-head lessons in here.
M: What a stupid concept.

Some clerks who can’t do the simplest of things like summon the manager need a beat down.

It’s safe to assume there’s more to the story. And I’m jesting, people . . . lighten up.

There has been more than once that I wanted to punch out a Tandy employee, who really deserved it. I finally stopped shopping there (in two different states).

Don't know all the facts here, but you're certainly right. Sometimes, a customer just needs a good beat-down.

I worked for Radio Shack while I was in grad school. There were some products that I was happy to permit my fellow salesman to sell. I knew they were coming back. Some items were just poor quality. In spite of those "charitable" acts, I was consistently #1 or #2 salesman in San Diego county. Big deal. The seasonal variation in commissions made it only slightly better than a minimum wage retail job.

I don't think we got the whole story. Resorting to fisticuffs over a merchandise return doesn't make sense. I suspect the customer did some major damage to the goods that made them unfit for resale.

This would be the first effective battery that ever came out of a Radio Shack.

Back when I was younger you could go in and talk to the salesmen and they could actually give you good advice after putting down their soldering gun. Usually someone was in the rear testing some vacuum tubes they had brought from home. They should change the motto to “Radio Shack....you got questions? We got questions”!

Customer: "I'm here for a battery."
Clerk: "Ok."

Radio Shack? Oh yes, the customer paid for the batteries but wouldn’t give his telephone number!
