Kerry Statement on Arlen Specter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 28, 2009

CONTACT: DC Press Office, 202-224-4159

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) made the following statement today on Senator Arlen Specter:

“This is a big moment. When Jim Jeffords left the Republican Party, he was the canary in the coal mine warning of Bush era ideological excess, and Senator Specter’s decision eight years later signals its tipping point. This is now officially a Republican Party where moderates need not apply, and a Democratic Party under President Obama that welcomes all perspectives and is determined to find consensus to move America forward.

“Arlen Specter is guts and grit personified, and he remains as independent as ever. He’s always been a thoughtful voice on everything from science and research to twenty first century infrastructure, and I look forward to working with him in our Caucus.”

And now I'm saying I hope John Kerry is right. Will wonders never cease?

True, but he is definitely not right about this part: a Democratic Party under President Obama that welcomes all perspectives .

I wouldn’t go that far. Specter wasn’t a true moderate but a liberal IMO.

From his days as Ira Einhorn’s attorney to his tenure as a Republican spitting in the face of Republicans, Spector has always been a self-server. I think he switched parties for two reasons: 1) first and foremost, job preservation, and 2) if he voted with the Dems on the budget, healthcare, and/or Cap-and-Trade... well, see item 1) above.

I hate John Kerry more than I hate Obama or Reid or Kennedy or any of 'em.

Yeah, he is a worthless traitor just like Kerry. Would probably sell us out to an enemy if he thought they might win, as long as he remained in some sort of power role. I hope the democrats see him as someone who can’t be trusted. Cheat once, will cheat again

Canary in coal mine?

So, Jumpin’ Jim leaves, to give the dems an un-elected majority, and then the republicans take over AGAIN at the ballot box. Jeffords offered to return to the majority, and was basically ignored.

This Kerry guy isn’t too bright...

When Jim Jeffords left the Republican Party, he was the canary in the coal mine warning of Bush era ideological excess, and Senator Specter's decision eight years later signals its tipping point.
"...it only took losing a midterm election and both houses of Congress, and a presidential election in which no one was fooled by my history of treason, to, uh, reach this, uh, tipping, uh, point..."

Personally, I think that my Senator (Kerry) is one of biggest BS artists around. I despise Teddy, and I resent most Massachusetts politicians, but Kerry is uniquely scummy.

Specter is simply being pragmatic here. He is a jerk, but he is not the sort of lowlife who actually comes across as trying to make people believe what he says.

Kerry does that. He panders do the dumbest among us.

John Kerry would have had his milk money/allowance taken away from him regularly if he went to my school or lived in my neighborhood.

Serious chump.

Predictable enough.

More mush from the wimp.

Or more pap from the sap.

BTW, what's up with Specter. He's 79 years old. What's he going to do in the next seven years that he hasn't done in the last 30?
