CDC: 'Fully expect we will see deaths'

Apr 28 02:29 PM US/Eastern By MIKE STOBBE ATLANTA (AP)

- A U.S. health official said at least five people are hospitalized with swine flu in the United States and deaths are likely. "I fully expect we will see deaths from this infection," as swine flu cases are investigated, said Richard Besser, acting director of the federal Centers for Disease Control.

He said he did not know about a newspaper report of two deaths in two southern California hospitals in which the victims seemed to be suffering from swine flu symptoms. "I would say I'm very concerned," Besser said.

"We are dealing with a new strain of influenza, we're dealing with a strain of influenza that appears to be moving through our community." Based on the latest lab analysis, Besser said new flu infections are still occurring.

He noted, however, that ordinary human flu accounts for about 36,000 deaths every year in the U.S.

He said hospitalizations nationwide include three in California and two in Texas. Besser said the country has 64 confirmed cases in five states, with 45 in New York, one in Ohio, two in Kansas, six in Texas and 10 in California. At least four other cases have been reported by states.

It might help if we closed the damn border where it originated! DUH!

Considering the interesting genetic cocktail this strain consists of, the tinfoil hatter in me thinks we might not wanna go all Janet Napolitano and blame Mexico just yet :)

Interesting- Cavuto is interviewing a man in California - he and his whole family have been confirmed to have this flu. Their young son was the first member of the family to have it- BUT the catch is- they haven’t been to Mexico, don’t know anyone who’s been to Mexico...

"91% rubbing alcohol check "

Back during the 'Bird Flu' worry days I bought 91% alcohol because I read that less than 91% wouldn't kill a virus.

So, on the way home from lunch today, I stopped at Family Dollar and bought some of their Hand Sanitizer because it says "compare to Purell." When I get home I read that it contains 62% ethyl alcohol.

Is the difference Isopropyl vs ethyl?

Purell

Contains 62% ethyl alcohol too.

NOT TRUSTING A DAMN THING FROM THE GOVT....triple check.

Don't be surprised if the socialist government use this as an excuse to ban large public gatherings, such as the tea parties.

Last night local Charleston, South Carolina news reported that state health officials are checking at least 24 suspected cases of the swine flu in this state. I wonder how many other states aren’t also on the national list.

"I just don’t have a clue what to do with it!"

You can spice it like a ham, fry it like bacon, or slice it cold like ham for a sandwich. It's good with melted cheddar and pineapple...there's a myriad of things you can do with Spam....

I must remember to vote for Obama tomorrow. He will pay my mortgage, pay for my gas, and stop me from dying. I am so excited!

But at this point the Obama admin scares me more than the flu. Remember 1976 :)

That's right! Didn't the flu vaccine they rushed into production kill more people than the actual flu?
