Specter: Who are the Voters to Judge ME? (admitted he was unwilling to face electorate)
Federal Review ^ | 4/28/09

Posted on 04/28/2009 11:06:51 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

Senator Arlen Specter (PA), who switched from the Republican to Democrat party on Tuesday (April 28), admitted that he did so due to an unwillingness to let voters decide his fate.

I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate,” he said in the statement.

“I don’t have to say anything to them. They’ve said it to me,” Specter said.

Specter, 79, has been a Republican for his five terms in the Senate. However, he had recently come under fire for supporting the Obama stimulus plan and was expected to face a tough primary challenge from Pat Toomey in 2010.

In addition, the state had been trending democratic in recent years, meaning that Specter could have also faced a difficult challenge in the general election if he stayed with his former party.

What will PA RATS do next year? Will they welcome him with open arms or give him the McLame treatment? If DUmmies in the state have their say he'll either be done in October or running as an “independent”.

“I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate.”

So here’s my poster for next spring. Have this statement at the top....then a picture of Arlen...and a simple comment at the bottom (”Loser”).

What does he get out of this deal? He gets a committee leadership situation and can help repay several of his buddies who’ve supported over the past twenty-five years. This is strictly about paying them back....over the 20 months he has left. I figure something in the range of $400 million will be pushed to his buddies for construction projects.

You can watch over the next year...what projects get done for his region and who gets the favors. Arlen was sure nice about paying folks back for their support. Thats all that this is really about. He knows he’s a loser...and this is the only deal he can get.

He sees his gravy train slipping away and he’s not too happy about it. The thought of working for a living ...

He's 79 years old and has a lifetime pension. He doesn't have to work.

This is about arrogance.

Didn’t he say something about taking each issue on it merits and deciding what to do?

I wonder if he will do the same thing as a DEM. Of course his voting record wont change... he will just feel more at home where he is going.

But I still wonder if he will take each issue on its merits like he does now.

Wha?

I’m fine with people who drop illusions about the purity and goodness of democracy. But this is just reprehensible. Thanks you for trusting in the system, Dictator Spectre.
