Exactly. I don’t know why people are so happy about this.

I do. There are a bunch of idiots on FR.

Rather than insulting your fellow FReepers, consider the actual situation: Spectre voted with the Dhims most of the time anyway. The RSCC, despite his RINO voting record, endorsed him against a conservative challenger when he comes up for reelection in '10.

He, along with Snowe and Collins, were Dhimmis in Rhino clothing.

One other point: Spectre (yes, I know I'm spelling the name wrong, it's intentional) just lost a HUGE amount of power. As a crossover vote, he had a HUGE amount of power. Now he's just one out of 60.

If I was Mitch McConnell, I'd rather have 40 colleagues (or 38 if Snowe and Collins bail, also) upon who I could count, rather than having 1 to 3 who would make me compromise conservative positions in order to keep their votes.

I'd rather know what my position was, even if it's a horrible position, rather than having to gamble and compromise, and then still risking being stabbed in the back.

Good riddance to him (and hopefully to the other two, as well).

Don’t throw Snow and Collins to the winds.

Think what would happen with the following ticket;

Palin-Pres/
Collins-VP

McVey

It WILL get worse before it gets better, friends.

Hell, we haven't even BEGUN to discuss the "press" and the "bureaucracy" as forth and fifth branches of government.

My sentiments exactly. I hope Specter lets the door hit him on the ass.

Nobody has to throw them McVey. They already blow whichever way the new wind blows. Snow and Collins would be a disaster for the Republican Party.

McCain taught us a lesson that won’t be forgotten soon.

The next ticket with his ilk on it will get zero votes from the right.

He’s nothing but a first-class political whore who would screw anything just to keep his job. I hope he’s in political Hell the rest of his days.

Back for a cup of coffee, and to see that you don't think party labels mean anything.

As everyone knows, I despise John McCain. I also wish I could wake up tomorrow and find that he was president, Cindy was first lady, and we didn't have the bunch of crooks and Marxists currently infesting the cabinet and the White House West Wing.

I don't think McCain would have tried to get the military to pay for their injuries with their own insurance. I am certain McCain wouldn't have taken over GM or passed a porkulus bill. And I am positive McCain wouldn't have signed the pro-abortion executive orders.

So, to me there is QUITE a bit of difference.

That is true, he probably wouldn’t. But on SOME issues he might have, and as a democrat I doubt he supports us on anything.

The only bright side to the debacle is that, if you remove Philadelphia and the four collar counties from the PA total, the GOP won the state. That is a pretty big “IF”—but, right now, we will hold on to some GOP congressional seats.

PA is screwed electorally for the foreseeable future because Philadelphia continues to increase the number of registered voters in the city even as the population decreases.

Figure out how that's possible, and you'll understand what's going on here. Electoral fraud is practically to Soviet levels in Philly.

Spector switching parties. I’m shocked- SHOCKED, I tell ya!

...not shocked. Just surprised it took the idiot this long to finally face what we all knew about him. He must have decided that it was time to retire...

lord McCain would have signed whatever the liberal Congress presented him in the name of bipartisanship . He is one of them not one of a Constitutional abiding citizens.

This whole prosecution of Bush administration top down threat can find its origin in lord McCain's legislation of smearing US with his obscene fit throwing legislation.

Collins is a dope.

But she does know how to play the game in Maine.

You’ve got to be kidding about a Palin/Collins ticket.

Two women?

Never sell.

Palin is very far from being the nominee (not saying impossible...just saying it would be a long shot), since, never forget, too many Americans bought that Tina Fay = Palin, and Repubs are scared of that even if they don’t buy it.

Collins is totally unacceptable for a host of reasons too long even to begin a list.

But you can bet your last dollar that she has no chance with conservatives.

Besides being a dope...

Exactly. I don’t know why people are so happy about this. With him changing sides, the Dems get their 60 votes. At least with him being a declared Republican, it was possible to pressure him to tow the line (e.g., card check). It’s over, people. Everything that Obama wants will now be fast tracked.

Specter was a paper tiger as a Republican anyway. Yes, Obama is going to get everything he wants, but he's pretty much gotten that anyway to this point.

The first step in repairing the GOP brand is to make sure that it actually MEANS something. Having frauds like Arlen Specter in your party makes a mockery of everything you supposedly stand for.

The next 2-4 years are going to be ugly--it's true. You'll have two choices: 1.) give up and go hang yourself in despair, or 2.) keep fighting with a leaner, more focused, more conservative team on our side.

For those of you who pick option 1, good riddance.

Toomey’s going to beat Arlen handily in the midterms. Spectre will go out a loser. ...just as he’s lived his life.
