Nigbur said the trooper tried to use his Taser but it didn't fire, so he threw it aside. But authorities say Parker picked it up and fired a shock called a "dry stun" into the officer.

"Here’s hoping she got her stupid ass beat after the fact."

Really? Are you sure thats what you are hoping because beating up people who are under arrest is against the law. You really want the police to beat up handcuffed civilians? Interesting.

"unauthorized control of a motor vehicle.."

What the hell is that? Either she stole the vehicle or she didn't.

“pepper spray is more dangerous than stun guns. It can trigger a full on asthma attack in some asthmatics.”

...and stun guns can cause heart attacks for those with pace makers. No non lethal weapon is one hundred percent non lethal.

Hmmm, she was just under arrest? Funny, and I thought she assaulted the cop. Interesting.....

And, YES. You try and injure a cop, or anyone else for that matter, you're going to get what's coming to you. Actions have consequences.

Oh, wait.....maybe he should have tried stern language? Would that be before or after he pulled the taser prongs out of his body?

Don't break the law & you have nothing to worry about.

Nit picking here but a myocardial infarction or heart attack is caused by reduced blood flow to a portion of the heart.

A stun gun may or may not affect the function of a pace maker, I have not seen evidence that it does, but it should not cause a heart attack.

Most of the death associated with stun gun use is also highly associated with stimulent use such as meth or cocaine. People on meth and cocaine also tend to drop dead strugling against their restraints, both in custody and when under full monitoring in an emergency room.

I have seen stats that stun guns are safer than pepper spray but the point of fact is that they are both orders of magnitude safer than being beat down or shot.

Yes, nit picking, Arrhythmia than. For people with congestive heart disease, the net result would still be heart failure.

"Hmmm, she was just under arrest?"

and I quote: "Here’s hoping she got her stupid ass beat after the fact."

I took that to mean after she was handcuffed. It would have still been illegal to beat her up before she was handcuffed, but perhaps more understandable. Beating up a handcuffed woman should get the officer jail time.

Incidentally doesn't it bother you that you advocate beating up a woman? I thought beating up women was something gentlemen didn't do?

Who says I am worried? BTW, if you think stun guns and pepper spray have never been used on innocent people, I have a bridge you might be interested in buying.

Woman who attacked trooper has criminal history

April 27th, 2009 @ 5:24pm

SALT LAKE CITY — The woman who attacked a highway patrol trooper over the weekend isn’t a stranger to the law. Court records show Lisa Parker, 41, has been in and out of jail for drug possession and DUI. Next Monday she was going to be sentenced for shoplifting.

Parker is now facing charges on another crime: aggravated assault.

On Saturday night, a trooper spotted a stolen truck at the Dream Inn’s motel on 1800 West and North Temple. He confronted a couple walking toward the truck. The man took off running, but the woman, Lisa Parker, began to fight.

UHP spokesman Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said, “No other way to describe her, she was just wild and completely out of control.”

The Utah Highway Patrol said the trooper tried to tase Parker, but the probes from the gun didn’t stick, so he threw the Taser on the ground.

Parker than attacked the trooper again, this time with her shoe. “The woman continued to grab her shoe, beat him across the head with hit, also beat him on the upper left arm,” explained Nigbur.

Investigators say the trooper was able to get Parker under control by using his baton, but while he was doing that, she grabbed the Taser on the ground and drive stunned him and, at some point, she threw a cleaning chemical in his face.

A backup officer showed up with a K-9. Jail documents say Parker fought the dog and poured soap on it.

Nigbur said, “That time our backup officer, backup trooper, pulls out his Taser and deploys his Taser, and it actually works this time, and that’s when they were able to take her into custody.”

Police also arrested the man she was with. He’s been identified as Carlos Hernandez Rodriguez.

Investigators say Parker was on cocaine, which can have a powerful effect on someone.

Nigbur said, “And there’s actually been documented cases where people on PCP and these type of drugs, they’ll actually get shot by law enforcement, and it will actually still keep coming. So it’s amazing what these drugs will get your body to do in a high stress scenario, or a high adrenaline scenario, and this was no different.”

The trooper who was attacked needed eight stitches above his eye, but he’s expected to be OK.

Story compiled with contributions from Sandra Yi and Shara Park.

After you fire a taser, the two little doors that pop off the cartridge reveal two blunt metal prongs. If you pull the trigger on the Taser again, it applies its high voltage between those prongs. They’re maybe a little more than an inch apart, so the area affected by the shock is small. “Drive stun” is used when one probe sticks in the suspect and the other one doesn’t. Pressing the Taser against the body completes the circuit and administers the shock.

Ok, nit picking again, congestive heart failure is a completely different problem that should not be affected by a stun gun.

Tasers have proven very safe when you consider the conditions in which they are used. I am considering lobbying to allow security to use them in our facitlity. We have had two episodes in the last 2 months where people almost got shot because they were too strong for security to subdue.

*********************************************************
The cop “THOUGHT” the truck she was a PASSENGER in MIGHT be stolen,, nothing was confirmed... and he was arresting the woman for WHAT? At this point in my life being arrested for some dumb unconfirmed SUSPICION and staying in jail for a few days because I don’t have the money for bail would have me losing my job and put me on track to miss a mortgage payment a few weeks down the road... These cops think nothing of the consequences of their actions ... he’s damn lucky she didn’t beat him senseless when he was stunned.
