Swine flu epidemic enters dangerous new phase

e swine flu epidemic entered a dangerous new phase Monday as the death toll climbed in Mexico and the number of suspected cases there and in the United States nearly doubled. The World Health Organization raised its alert level but stopped short of declaring a global emergency. The United States advised Americans against most travel to Mexico and ordered stepped up border checks in neighboring states. The European Union health commissioner advised Europeans to avoid nonessential travel both to Mexico and parts of the United States.

The virus poses a potentially grave new threat to the U.S. economy, which was showing tentative early signs of a recovery. A widespread outbreak could batter tourism, food and transportation industries, deepening the recession in the U.S. and possibly worldwide.

The suspected number of deaths rose to 149 in Mexico, the epicenter of the outbreak with nearly 2,000 people believed to be infected.

The number of U.S. cases doubled to 42, the result of further testing at a New York City school, although none was fatal. Other U.S. cases have been reported in Ohio, Kansas, Texas and California. Worldwide there were 73 cases, including six in Canada, one in Spain and two in Scotland.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? Yeats.

This whole crisis/bailout/socialism/etc. thing during the first 100 days just got its next disaster. Without a global pandemic to strain the current healthcare system to its limits we can’t install a national government run healthcare and insurance system. This Obama Creep is destroying our country, piece by piece.

Congress can just pass some legislation. outlawing this new form of flu. Or spend more money they don’t have.

LOL! This minor news story is drawing breathless panic from bankrupt media desperate to increase ad revenue. Two weeks from now, this story will be over. No pandemic. No effect whatsoever on the economy, unless you are Tyson or Smithfield and let your workers wade in pig feces.

“which was showing tentative early signs of a recovery”

And where are those “signs”?

Is this going to be used as the excuse for it to continue to decline?

Yes but normally not otherwise healthy people or people in certain groups like this one is killing.

Why is it that the Flu is Killing people who are not normally at risk of death from the Flu could it be this new Flu is triggering a Cytokine storm?

Perhaps our government will finally be motivated to take our border seriously. If nothing else, this may be what it takes to scare people into forcing the powers that be to do their jobs and defend the border.
