They give him life yet?
These are apparently among the options:
Statutory maximum: 20 years in prison
Prosecutors’ recommendation: 9 years in prison
Probation recommendation: 6.5 years in prison
Carona’s olive-branch offering: 15 to 21 months in prison
Carona’s wish: Probation (such as home detention)
It looks like the Twitter person is taking a long break. Meanwhile, from the OC Register site:
Judge says Carona’s crime ‘worse than perjury’
Judge says Carona crime brought shame to O.C
Judge: “Lying will not be tolerated in this courtroom ... especially to this county’s leading law enforcement officer.”
Correction: (especially BY the county’s)
Judge: “The Mike Carona we seeing telling someone to lie speaks poorly of your characteristics”
Judge says he didn’t understand “unrestrained celebrations” by Carona after verdict.
“A wrong message was sent regarding respect for the law and the jury system,’’ judge says.
Carona seems composed.
“Carona has given no indication that he wouldn’t ask someone again to lie,’’ judge says.
I’m sensing the Judge is not going with probation.
“I believe the Bureau of Prisons will protect Mr. Carona,’’ judge says. “Just as Carona protected inmates under his care.”
Yep...Big house.
Ouch!!
Judge: Carona is sentenced to pay $125,000 fine ...
Judge is now saying Carona has a year to pay the fine.
Carona is sentenced to a term of 66 months
