A White House official tells ABC News that President Obama was "furious" to hear about the incident this morning when Air Force One and Air Force fighter jets appeared to be flying into the Manhattan skyline, scaring many New Yorkers into thinking they were about to face another terrorist attack.
Many buildings in lower Manhattan evacuated. Angry New York politicians lashed out at whoever was responsible for the incident -- which turned out to have been for a photo op.
An explanation was forthcoming in a mea culpa statement issued from the White House.
“Last week, I approved a mission over New York," Louis Caldera, director of the White House military office, said.

I just got in and I’m trying to wrap my head around this story. The information that is missing from every story is what exactly was the photo op for and who requested it. Or have I missed that somewhere?

I hope the people who were injured in the panic, and the owners of the businesses who couldn’t conduct business get together and file the mother of all class action lawsuits against The King.
It took cbs only 23 minutes of a 30 minute’’newscast’’ to report on this. Like many posters have mentioned before. The white house knew about this and now the big fish is furious(cue the teleprompter)

Right. Its freakin amateur hour at the White House. Leadership comes from the top down and clearly this white house does NOT remember a damn thing from 9-11.
I am seriously believe this White House is going to get citizens killed for real because they do not take the threat at all seriously.

He's just spent 100 days dismantling our defenses and sweeping the War on Terror under the carpet and pretending it doesn't exist then some numbskull goes and gives New York a frightening reminder of 9/11, and Voila! everyone suddenly remembers all about Muslim terrorism again!

The Administration and Congress are preparing to pass a massive carbon tax to save the environment because WE use too much fossil fuel and then burns thousands of gallons of fuel for a photo-op ...what hypocrisy! Where is Al Gore???
