UNITED NATIONS, April 27 (Reuters) - The world must make sure that poorer countries hit hard by other crises do not have to bear the brunt of any possible swine flu pandemic, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday.
"The swine flu outbreak shows yet again that, in our interconnected world, no nation can deal with threats of such dimension on its own," Ban told reporters.
He added that if the swine flu outbreak becomes a pandemic, global solidarity will be crucial.
"Poorer nations are especially vulnerable," he said. "They have been hit hard by other crises this year -- food, energy, the global economy, climate change. We must ensure that they are not also hit disproportionately hard by a potential health crisis."
He said that the World Bank and other U.N. development and humanitarian agencies would "mobilize to ensure that countries needing additional financial resources to combat an epidemic will have them."

Here we go.... throw open the US Treasury doors and start handing out the billions. We the totally bankrupt of America need to save every last peasant from the latest flu fad!
OK Obama heres you chance to f’up again.....send all the meds to them then we will run out at the peak.......
Oh oh - I have a feeling I know who is going to (again) send massive amounts of help to countries that would just as soon see America wiped off the map. Think tsunami....
Amazing how they hate capitalism but sure appreciate having it around to tap into when it’s needed.
Hey, thanks to Obumble, WE are now a poor nation. So pony up, UN.
Man! That was fast! Here is Obama’s chance to pledge 3% of our GDP to Venezuela or Cuba or something. We’re giving the PLO $900 million whay not. Obama can’t give our money away fast enough and the world knows it. Obama is bankrupting us.
What are you talking about? That’s his whole strategy! After all, “white man’s greed runs a world in need.” We need to get rid of the “predominantly white America’s” medicine so the rest of the world can have it.
Lets just give the U.N. $50K thatautadoit!
They don’t miss a chance anymore. Any conceivable excuse for the UN to say affluent nations should send money to poorer nations is immediately jumped upon.
Quarantine Mexico. That’s right, that means sealing the borders. Wait, I forgot we don’t do that.
The United States is broke and interest rates are low ONLY because the Fed is using its open market transaction powers to manipulate the interest rate markets (in violation of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934. Nobody really knows what real interest rates are at the moment. The Fed is manipulating to fund this kind of public spending.
Best thing that ever happened to Europe was the black death.
Re-arranged failed social structure, caused it to value labor, move to capital-intensive industry.
Its all starting to make sense now.
WE ARE BROKE, ASK SOMEOME ELSE!
We gave at the office.
Best thing that ever happened to Europe was the black death..
Being flip, yes.
But I am absolutely serious about the economic/political effect of the black death on Europe. The black death broke the back of fuedal society and sowed the seas for both the free capitalistic society and the industrial revolution.
Ironic, huh?
