When Patrick Henshaw's son became sick last Friday, little did he know that the 18-year-old had acquired a potentially deadly disease that made its way across the U.S.-Mexico border -- the swine flu.
"It started out where he was sick earlier in the week. Then there was a message ... from the superintendent of our school that two children had tested positive for the swine flu virus, so ... we had him tested for that. And they said, 'Oh my gosh, he tested positive,'" Henshaw told ABC News.
--snip--
The Henshaws know how dire the situation is. They have not been able to leave their house since the high schooler became ill earlier last week.
"They wanted us to stay in the house, and they won't let anyone stay in the house," Henshaw said. "Hayden's in the house. They told him to stay in his room for five days. We were told not to go in and out and interact with other people [for an indefinite amount of time]."
His daughter also stopped going to school on Friday, when the state's health department confirmed that Hayden tested positive for the swine flu. But Henshaw -- whose cousin delivers food for the family at their doorstep -- still feels thankful that his son's condition is improving.

This quote makes my head hurt.
And it also drives home the point that we are only as free as our government permits us to be.
If there was truly a concern over communicable diseases, we would not permit illegal unscreened entry into this country.
It doesn't pay to be a citizen of the US these days.
ABC News is still a product of Disney Corp.
The Homeland Security Council, under the leadership of terrorism czar John Brennan, is heading up the administration's handling of this situation -- and working with the CDC, the State Department and the Mexican government.
IOW, an individual who never went through a Senate confirmation process is assuming management control over the Senate-confirmed Secretary of Homeland Security. Seems to me that's a slap in the face of the Senate, as well as a predicted end run around the Constitutionally empowered process of Advice and Consent.
What happens if a Muslim gets the swine flu bug ?
<whose cousin delivers food for the family at their doorstep
Obviously not a FReeper. I could easily go for 5 days w/o food at my place.
We were quarantined when my sister and I both got scarlet fever back in the ‘50s. And yes, folks delivered food to our doorstep (no Freepers back then).
And the leftists have found their way to blame the Bush administration....again:

For the Record...as of this Monday morning, the actual caseload of reported “swine flu” is as follows:
Mexico: 108 confirmed cases
US: 40 confirmed cases
There are more cases of bacterial pneumonia right now in the US....where’s the panic over that??
My mom told me a story about a neighbor delivering her a tv set when ours went out because she was having ‘Dark Shadows’ withdrawals, lol.
umm how do they test for Swine Flu over any other flu
I think there’s way too much panic over it, too. But that’s useful for a lot of people.
Mexico City probably does need to be careful for a week or so. It didn’t originate there but because of the population density, it will obviously have a heavy impact. Baja was the first place it was found in Mexico, although the first place it was identified at all was in the US, in the child of a DOD employee near San Diego, where it was thought to be an Asian avian flu. That doesn’t mean the first case was necessarily in the US, but simply that we (actually, the Navy) were the first to identify it.
They actually got people to go to that?
wow...
