FAA says low-flying plane over Staten Island is 'pre-planned' flight to take photos by Staten Island Advance Monday April 27, 2009, 10:03 AM
A plane, that appears to be a commercial jet tailed by fighter jets, is a "pre-planned" military flight taking photos of the Statue of Liberty, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Reports indicate it may be Air Force One.
"It is pre-planned, pre-coordinated with everyone involved," said FAA spokesman Jim Peters. "It's a military flight over New York to take photos."
Peters, who stressed it is not an emergency, said the flight is circling the Statue of Liberty and New York City to take photos.
Peters said city officials as well as state government agencies in New York and New Jersey were briefed on the flight in advance.
Chuck Todd was the reporter believe it or not. There was another reporter that asked a question about it towards the end (can’t remember her name..but long time fixture at the WH press corp). She said that Mayor Bloomberg wants the President to answer questions about this and is mad as hell.
I normally hate Wonkette, but they have a ‘article’ up that says: ‘Obama Attacks Statue Of Liberty’....LOL
lolz
WOW! Imagine how loud the engines sounded. I think I would have fainted too.
Absolutely! Not to mention overwhelming the 911 call centers. Hopefully no one died as a result of this moronic stunt.

Schumer must be getting an earful!
Awesome work Velvetta! Thanks! Did you hear Chuck say at the end: ‘You seem very edgy about this’?
I can't think of one. Seriously. This guy is so out of the loop and has a mere tacit grasp of the english language.
Sure he speaks the language but he has a hard time put words together to make a coherent sentence.
Actually, I’m not an idiot, but thank you for the gratuitous insult.
OK, it’s not particularly common, but lots of uncommon things happen in big cities without upsetting the natives. I’m surprised that New Yorkers didn’t take it in their stride, and I suspect the perpetrators were surprised too.
I mean it was a VERY recognizable plane and if you think AF 1 is hijackable then you really are a cook! And if it was too far away to be identifiable as AF 1 then it wasn’t an issue in the first place..
Clearly the military or the administration misjudged this situation and frightened the people. But consider this... they actually did us a favor today - either one of two things happened.
Either 0bama’s administration ordered the photo shoot and by not publicizing it they unwittingly gave nervous New Yorkers a nasty reminder of 9/11 just when 0bama and his minions had pretty much swept the war on terror under the carpet...
or..
The military used the request to take the photos to deliberately give New York a short sharp reminder to scupper 0bama’s attempt to minimize the war on terror.
So my view is that it was a good thing, perhaps a few liberal New Yorkers will now think twice about supporting the Messiah.
I guess the people of New York have a commemorative photo as well.
Someone should post that picture of the guy that says “Not this Shit again”. Only change the caption to: “Oh Shit??? Dohy?
see my answer #269 ( the first line does not apply to you but to the original posting)
OTH, maybe you are right about the military, which I am fine with but, someone still has to take in the shorts and a public apology made.
Wil-When is the last time this exact thing occurred?
I agree that this mess will wake up some people. As for the name-calling, I apologize, but your posts on this thread were quite dismissive and 239 even contained a crack about overestimating NYers that was entirely uncalled for. There’s probably not a NYC resident who doesn’t know someone that was hurt or worse in the attacks.
Shows the absolute ignorance to the feelings of Americans in a post 911 world. Not notifying the populace and causing a mass hysteria should be a felony and Obama should be prosecuted for allowing it to proceed.
That's probably it, but the question is why? Maybe for some kind of propaganda piece.
Yep, the insanity of the masses elected this president and will allow bs like this to happen ...
I don't really buy that any more than I buy that this flyover was a photo op. I don't know what the flyover was, but I have pretty strong suspicions as to what it wasn't. RE: 65 million idiots voting for Obama, I do know, as all of us here know, that Democrats CHEAT to win, Al Franken being the latest example, and Mayor Daly being the most poignant example. Democrats have to cheat to win -- voting multiple times, registering the dead to vote, registering mentally ill and frail elderly and "helping" them vote, registering felons, etc. Democrat leadership knows full well that if Democrats didn't cheat, they'd lose because the majority of Americans would reject them. We must ALL remember this truth.
I also know that the media is like a Las Vegas magician in creating illusions so real that most people believe them. Most conservatives believe the media illusion that Obama is popular, and therefore conclude, wrongly, that Obama supporters outnumber Obama rejectors. The MSM didn't elect Obama -- vote fraud and unethical manipulation of votes did that. The MSM, however, is what has kept the majority of the nation's citizens, who condemn Obama, so demoralized as to roll over and deem the "election" the legitimate will of the people, when it was actually the BETRAYAL of the will of the people. Resist the urge to buy the MSM illusion. Remember that it IS illusion to hide the truth that you are in the majority.
Where we the pictures taken from? I would think that in order for it to be a memorable photo, it would have to be taken from above so that one could see AF One and the Statue of Liberty in the background below. If taken from below, you’re going to see lady liberty and the belly of a jet. Were there other planes or helicopters nearby?
Amen! (though I'm a quarterly donor ... I probably total more $ donations that way than if I went monthly, to tell you the truth!). Free Republic is the Cousin Vinnie at the birthday party challening the magician about the illusions he's trying to pull over on the audience, only the magician doing the magic tricks is the MSM, and the Cousin Vinnies are FReepers who post videos and make Rathergate happen.
God bless Free Republic and God bless Jim Robinson, as God has surely blessed us with FR and Jim.
The photographers would most likely be in the fighter.
No, fighter jets (from what I'm told by someone who has flown in them and worked on them) are pretty difficult to get decent photos from, especially with distortion from the canopy, not to mention cramped quarters. A pro photographer would be in a small, executive-size Lear-type jet rigged with a steadycam for photography, just like real working photographers use when filming other planes in flight.
