FAA says low-flying plane over Staten Island is 'pre-planned' flight to take photos by Staten Island Advance Monday April 27, 2009, 10:03 AM
A plane, that appears to be a commercial jet tailed by fighter jets, is a "pre-planned" military flight taking photos of the Statue of Liberty, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Reports indicate it may be Air Force One.
"It is pre-planned, pre-coordinated with everyone involved," said FAA spokesman Jim Peters. "It's a military flight over New York to take photos."
Peters, who stressed it is not an emergency, said the flight is circling the Statue of Liberty and New York City to take photos.
Peters said city officials as well as state government agencies in New York and New Jersey were briefed on the flight in advance.
Thanks to those “in-the-know” for the explanation re: “Looking Glass”. I always learn something new from you guys.
Thanks.
With sites like Free Republic, politicians can no longer ignore the common folk like us asking, “What the hell is going on, and why did you do that?”
Of course 0b0z0 will deny any liability in this photo oops, but now it is in our files documenting his string of oops.
Where was this guy today?

Official White House Photographer Gets Inside View
The story
It’s early April, and President Obama is on his way to France with the nation’s top diplomat at his side. As he and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton converse in a private room aboard Air Force One, a photographer peers through the half-open door and snaps a candid picture of the formerly bitter campaign rivals.
Photographing two of the most powerful people in the country up-close and personal may seem like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to most Americans. But for photographer Pete Souza, it’s a common occurrence.
“I try to photograph everything. Every meeting that the president does,” Souza told CNN’s John King on “State of the Union.”

On the CNN website today.
I don’t buy it either.

Our group is on one of the top floors and needless to say we probably had some of the best views of this incident. We were conducting work as normal when all of a sudden we see this huge commerical plane coming at us. People were ducking and on the floor because it came so close. The plane flew right over us and couldn’t have missed the building by more than 100 feet.
Then we heard people scream it was coming back. The plane literally looked like it was going to barrel into our building coming straight at us until it turned upwards at the last minute. I can’t believe I saw the underbelly of a plane fly over me. When it started coming back a 3rd time, we ran for the stairs. It’s safe to say we are pretty angry about having to evacuate and go down 30+ flights of stairs for a ‘photo shoot.’ What a start to the week.”

OMG..MSNBC in full cover up mode for the ZERO!!
How is this for a bait and switch headline:
‘F-16s Buzz Lady Liberty, Put City on Edge’
We already know that Air Force One did more than ‘buzz the Statue of Liberty’...God..they make me sick! Trying to blame it on the DOD and military. Must have gotten the call from Rahm to put up some smoke and mirrors to cover for Obama.
The photographers would most likely be in the fighter.
It’s pretty likely that they were taking photos of AF-1 with the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty in the background.
I agree with you on the state using tax dollars. The problem was the state and the city of Minneapolis stood in the way and put the kibosh on Red’s plans with a county south of Minneapolis, to build a new stadium that would have helped that county immensely.(Blair, or Blain not sure exactly)
However, the Democrats of the state and the city of Minneapolis who didn’t want Minneapolis to lose the business and taxes the Vikings generate, ginned up the environmental wackos to help screw them, so now the Vikings will probably be leaving soon. It takes almost 4 years to build a new stadium and the lease on Mike Lynn’s balloon stadium is up in 2012.
Think about it, Lynn has been out of the picture for almost 20 years, but he still collects millions from the deal he made with the city of Minneapolis to build the Dome back in the “80”s. Lynn was a big Democrat supporter back in the days he was the GM. He is also the guy who put together the ten owner group that ruined the once great Viking franchise that we had in the “70”s.
As I say time and time again, find a problem and you will find a liberal someplace in the mix that screwed things up. Is there anything in this world that liberals have not ruined?
Posts like these break my heart:
“Everybody panicked,” said Daisy Cooper, a Merrill Lynch worker in Jersey City, who lost a nephew on 9/11. “Everybody was screaming and we all ran downstairs. I’m devastated. ..Everybody was running, we didn’t know why we were running. We just knew it was a plane, there we go, 9/11 again.”

never been scared like this before. you wouldn’t know unless you experienced it. i still feel light-headed from the shock and fear that there might be an airplane out there heading toward the building you hadn’t gotten out yet. the danger need not be real; it was the fear that was real.never been scared like this before. you wouldn’t know unless you experienced it. i still feel light-headed from the shock and fear that there might be an airplane out there heading toward the building you hadn’t gotten out yet. the danger need not be real; it was the fear that was real.

Totally paranoid?? You are being unnecessarily confrontational. How the hell am I supposed to know that airports request commemorative photos of AF-1, or that this is how they do it? (If that is in fact the case...)
Go pick a real argument somewhere.
It really is just awful.
not looking glass-i can confirm this
This video is astounding:

If you turn up the sound, you can hear folks in the background screaming “Oh my God”.
O-boy can burn in hell for terrorizing NYC today.
Fascinating. A self-declared ex-media guy who names himself "mindbender" can't figure out why lack of prior notification of a large commercial aircraft (AF1 or not) followed by a military fighter cruising at low altitude through Manhattan would be something most people would consider fully justified as alarming.
Not that I'm disagreeing with your choice of names. Just seeing more depth in it, is all.
