LUXEMBOURG - The European Union's health commissioner urged Europeans on Monday to postpone nonessential travel to the United States or Mexico due to swine flu.

EU Health Commissioner Andorra Vassiliou met with the EU foreign ministers on the subject as Spain reported the first confirmed case of swine flu in Europe. That was also the first swine flu case outside North America.

It’s no longer just about Bush bashing. ALL politicians must be held responsible for INEXCUSABLY and PURPOSEFULLY keeping our borders open, including Bush, who should have closed them on 9/12.

You don’t know that. Close the borders, restrict travel to and from Mexico. Europe did it today but we have such wimps in DC, they would rather let it get out of control. Wait... hmmm maybe that’s what they are hoping for. Instant socialized medicine and martial law. Obummers dream.

this only would have helped if every country would have locked its borders at the same time and would have restricted travel. had not happened. so right now the global travel will spread it regardless what happens now.

I voted for Bush

So did I...twice.

Domestically he was an abysmal failure.

This is just going to take more time, observation and statistical data. Just heard a radio discussion that made a few interesting points, or fairly logical speculations:

1. The seemingly less serious flu in the US could be because Americans might already have been exposed to some elements of this swine/avian/human flu, and so have some immunity that Mexicans don’t have.

2. We still might not have enough cases in the US to know how serious it is, or what the death rate might be in a more widespread infection.

And my observation: the majority of US cases are the teens from the Queens, NY private school. Word is from Mexico that this flu is hardest on young adults 20 - 45. So, the teens might be less affected.

And our Dept. of Homeland Security has upped its advice to travel to Mexico only if essential. A little more precaution.

Many, if not all, of the cases in the US are from folks who traveled there and brought it back

Oh sure, we have millions of Mexicans crossing into the U.S. illegally, but it's only the stupid American tourist bringing this disease in.

hey i´m against illegal immigration too (i´m not an american but anyway) but to say this disease is the falut of illegal aliens is just wrong. it would have hit the US anyway because of global travel and trade. so maybe right now a mexican who may is infected is illegal crossing the border right now but at the same time you can be shure that there are americans, europeans, asians... legal enroute to your country who will have this disease too.

Mr. Foreigner?

Lets see, for every American stupid enough to go to Mexico, we got 20,000 illegals forming a conga-line into the U.S...Running back and forth at will....But hey, the American tourist are the big issue here.

Ya think anyone in this government would ban travel into the pit, until they could get a handle on it?

Not a freaking chance.

I’m not saying that folks aren’t carrying it or won’t carry it over the border. Just saying most of the folks getting it right now just visited Mex.

sorry but why is an american stupid if he/she did their vaction in mexico? it´s just a tourist goal along many others. who said that american tourists are the big issure? international travel and trade is the big issure. thats all. have american tourists spread the disease into the US? Shure. as do European tourists (who have been to mexico just days before and then desided back at home to suddenly fly to New york for a weekend via London just days after.) so have illegal aliens done their part to spread this disease? shure, but in this case it´s nothing special. Because to think that this would not have happened if no mexican would be able to illegal cross your border is beyond reality.is it their fault that they are infected? the tourist fault? i guess no. No one asked them if they want to get infected by this flu. It just happens. to blame this on special people is just stupid. so whats next? telling your fellow citizen you are not allowed back into the US because you did made this “deadly” failure to have a vacation in the wrong country at the wrong time without your knowledge?
So pi$$ off from this country because you dared to have a vacation outside of US borders?

Heck, why not vacation in Iraq? Forget the flu! There are fewer kidnappings, beheadings and murder of journalists there than in good Ol’ Mexico!

you don´t get my point. no sane human beeing would now fly to mexico if he/she had a choice. but the problem is not people who fly now to mexico it´s more about people who have allready been back from mexico not knowing that they are ill. or people who have been still there when this has become public.

How about a road trip through Iran with Israeli flags painted on the vehicle?

Maybe a cruise off the coast of Somalia?

Say, I bet the travel agents phones are ringing off the hook. Good deals to be had, no doubt!

just for example. i really don´t know how this is managed in the US but in my country if the state declares a official traveling warning. you are allowed to get back all your money which you may have invested in your personal trip. So once my state declares a official travelling warning i can change my flight, hotel... and the companys involved is forced to return every single cent i may have invested in this trip before. So usually the state is extreme carefull to declare a official travel warning because it will cost the economy millions of dollars.
