LUXEMBOURG - The European Union's health commissioner urged Europeans on Monday to postpone nonessential travel to the United States or Mexico due to swine flu.
EU Health Commissioner Andorra Vassiliou met with the EU foreign ministers on the subject as Spain reported the first confirmed case of swine flu in Europe. That was also the first swine flu case outside North America.

It isn’t in the establishment’s plan to close the border, and while Bush was an open borders guy, he was not alone. It isn’t fair to blame the swine flu on him. Many, if not all, of the cases in the US are from folks who traveled there and brought it back.
Closing the borders long ago would have avoided this potential epidemic.
Swine flu Bush’s fault? You need to go back to DU.
Why has our CDC been asleep?
Umm, wouldn’t have stopped it occuring in Mexico or US visitors from contracting it. And people who have influenza probably aren’t capable of trekking across the border.
This is about to get worse. Just imagine how many kids had spring break in Mexico.......
don't be a dolt.
I don't think that's true. What about the cases in Texas and CA? Were they brought back from border jumpers? Or, do you know for certain they weren't?
You know these early cases may not be the deadly strain killing those in Mexico...close the border for heaven’s sake. I see other countries are taking steps...but no, we must me politically correct which in this case could get us killed.
WASHINGTON, April 26 (Reuters) - The United States is not testing airplane travelers from Mexico for the swine flu virus that has heightened fears of a possible pandemic, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on Sunday.
“Right now we don’t think the facts warrant more active testing or screening of passengers coming in from Mexico,” she said at a White House briefing.
Oh, for pete’s sake. This has nothing to do with Bush and not much to do with the Mexican border, or at any rate, no more than any travel has to do with borders. The flu seems to have been brought into the US mostly by middle class Americans who had traveled by air to vacation at some of the resorts on the Gulf Coast of Mexico (where it first appeared), and the earliest identified US case involved the child of a DOD employee near San Diego (there are also cases in the Baja tourist areas). The Spanish cases had also vacationed on the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
Can’t we just lay off the Bush bashing for a little while at least?
I shouldn’t make out with college girls any more. ;)
be careful, your BDS is showing.
Interesting...BUT,for anyone wanting a rational comment on the state of this epidemic,I suggest this medical source:
It’s not particularly exciting, and it involves a reasonable amount of reading, but, once you’ve finished, you’ll have something more than empty slogans.
Cozying up to Mexico and turning backs on the flood of the lowest strata of Mexican citizens certainly can be blamed.
I do blame Bush, but I blame past and current politicians who are ruling and ruining our lives and the quality of life in the USA.
LOL. Take allot of Vitamin C, and some D and selenium first. Then kiss.....
I think the CDC is just lazy. Their attitude is “it’s impossible to contain, so why try”. Instead of lets limit this as much as possible and save at least some lives.
Look me up in 60 days and we'll talk about it.
That reminds me of the guy who wanted to gush about Obomba three days after the election. I told him to call me in six months and we'd talk then.
