WashPo: Obama Off to Solid Start, Poll Finds (Release of Memos Reveals Deep Partisan Split)
The Washington Post ^ | April 26, 2009 | By Jon Cohen and Jennifer Agiesta

Barack Obama's performance in the first 100 days of his presidency draws strong public approval in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, but there is decidedly less support for his recent decision to release previously secret government memos on the interrogation of terrorism suspects, an initiative that reveals deep partisan fissures.

Overall, the public is about evenly divided on the questions of whether torture is justifiable in terrorism cases and whether there should be official inquiries into any past illegality involving the treatment of terrorism suspects. About half of all Americans, and 52 percent of independents, said there are circumstances in which the United States should consider employing torture against such suspects.

Barely more than half of all poll respondents back Obama's April 16 decision to release the memos specifying how and when to employ specific interrogation techniques. A third "strongly oppose" that decision, about as many as are solidly behind it. Three-quarters of Democrats said they approve of the action, while 74 percent of Republicans are opposed; independents split 50 to 46 percent in favor of the decision.

The release of the documents, which was fiercely debated at high levels within the government, met with quick fire from former vice president Richard B. Cheney, who said last week that companion memos showing the "success of the effort" should be declassified as well, arguing that the methods had "been enormously valuable in terms of saving lives, preventing another mass casualty attack against the United States."

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, who served in the same position in George W. Bush's administration, supported the release of the documents but said it made him "quite concerned with the potential backlash in the Middle East and in the theaters where we are involved in conflict --

The end result mirrors the election numbers. The country is clearly divided: Obama morons vs. non-morons with the middle percentage that is totally confused or clueless.

Do we think the “media” polls are actually going show the truth? LOL

What goes round, comes round... remember that 0 and C0.

“.... and call most independents from blue states and blue counties.”

####

Who are really Democrats (or worse), too hip and progressive to condescend to utilizing conventional party designations in reference to their precious and special selves.

“Independents” in name only

Obama Wants $100B For Global Poverty

Geithner says crisis threatens work on poverty
By Harry Dunphy, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – The global economic crisis threatens to reverse gains in fighting poverty, so banks that provide aid to poor nations must embrace changes in their operations, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Sunday.

Those development banks are at the forefront of efforts to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable growth, he said the World Bank’s policy-setting board.

“We cannot afford to lose time or lose ground,” Geithner said.

At the same time, he said it was important for the banks to conduct their aid business in the open.

They must face reviews to ensure they have enough money and are promoting fundamental changes, Geithner said. He added that their resources must be used to “achieve the maximum impact on long-term development objectives, including addressing the needs of the poorest.” …

Officials agreed on an immediate increase of $250 billion for IMF lending. A further $250 billion would be added later to an “expanded and more flexible” line of credit.

President Barack Obama is seeking congressional approval for up to $100 billion for that effort, matching commitments for the same amount made by Japan and the European Union…

If you pick a 100 people that you know do you find that 69% of them approve of Obama?

Yes, but I live in a town where Che Guevara is considered a moderate.

don't get it either but I believe it 100 percent after the last two elections we arrogantly ignored and laughed at polls just to take it in the ass...I totally believe that 69 percent of American believe that Obama has done a good job.

The end result mirrors the election numbers. The country is clearly divided: Obama morons vs. non-morons with the middle percentage that is totally confused or clueless.

I agree. The problem is there is virtually NO ONE on the national political scene who has or will articulate, what conservatism is, why the United States was founded, the bigotry of the media, the shadow government (CFR) who front the candidates, etc.

In other words, the LEFT has a clearly stated political agenda - the government should be taking care of all people. And they don't even have to hide it, for it capitalizes on psychological phenomena of guilt, projection (blame), sympathies, racial bias (their own), etc. All which are readily embraced by a shallow public. "They" (the Left) DO know what they are doing mass-psychologically.

The counter of conservatism is clearly articulated ideology - responsibility of the individual for his own decisions and insistence on same for others; in general called freedom. But again there is virtually NO national politician who will state such.

Although likable, GWB was a PR disaster, and perhaps the last opportunity. I believe it was because he also was an elitist for whom it was simply impossible to identify with blue collar psychology. Although presenting a different image (at which Hollywood excels), BHO is also a front for a truly sinister shadow elite.

Leftism is a shade of Feudalism. Julian Jaynes explains it comprehensively.

If I ever get called for a poll, I will definitely say I’m Dem or Indy so my response doesnt get thrown out.

My mom got called by Gallup during the election last yr, she said she was Republican , the questions they asked her were ridiculous.

I continue to find this more effort to prop their Precious up. Nowhere near 69%, period. He has at least what he got in the election, but I’m not buying he won over those who voted against him and it will drop soon enough when reality sets in because all his policies and movements show hostility to our nation’s safety and prosperity. I look forward to when they try to spin a bad poll. It isn’t going to stop, but they are going to try to prolong this illusion of grandeur.

The media writes news and produces polls like a coloring book. First they outline the liberal result they want to achieve, then they add the color as it comes to life and turns into reality. Then they turn the page to the next issue. They burnish old pages as needed.

Truth doesn't matter to them at all. Polls never show our positions favorably. They didn't when Reagan was in office. In 1994, we were told the elections were too close to call. Sometimes the media is indeed right. Sometimes they are wrong. But the results of any media polling are deliberately slanted. Ideology and the public reinforcement of their views and attitudes are at work. We have to read these stories and polls with the same jaundiced eye Soviet citizens used in their day.

The media apparatchiks hope to share in government spoils, positions, and pensions. They are the water carriers of socialism. Never expect anything else, especially from the hypocrites and dirtbags at the Washington Post.

This is why we need to secede and start fresh. There are way to many morons in the old USA. They haven't a clue as to what we had or what we lost.

Time to get out while we still can...

Absolutely correct. Obama is the shill for someone. Obama is smart but he's not that smart and the agenda is coming out incredibly fast. Pelosi is involved. WHO are these people????

I simply cannot continue to live in a society that is based on leftist fiction and lies. Who wants to be fellow citizens with people who think like that? We need to secede or we need to find freedom elsewhere. The USA is dead...
