Do the paper masks keep viruses out? They do a fair job of keeping the airborne droplets of mucus and saliva out.

This from Bloomberg.com...
The first case was seen in Mexico on April 13. The outbreak coincided with the President Barack Obamas trip to Mexico City on April 16. Obama was received at Mexicos anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported. The newspaper didnt confirm if Solis had swine flu or not.

Obama was received at Mexicos anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported. In other news, President Barack Obama cancelled an afternoon meeting with the Young Communists League, saying that he was "coming down with something" and didn't want "the future leaders of our nation" exposed to it.

I am a physician. I am prescribing Tamiflu 75 mg 10 pills just to have in the house for my kids (aged 16 to 35). If this gets worse, there will be a run on Tamiflu...speak to your docs.

Only those in Mexico have died, so what are we doing that theyre not doing in Mexico...Tamiflu? Respiratory support while the flu runs its course?
We have better nutrition and sanitation -- the two most critical factors in disease prevention. Those living in overcrowded, impoverished and polluted Mexico city are at a distinct disadvantage.

It is odd (to me) that this flu is a combination of three flu types. Wondering if this could be some kind of laboratory- created flu?
You are correct, this is an engineered flu strain. This sort of strain doesn't exist naturally.

I share close quarters with my dogs and cats, just like a lot of American families. My animals and I have never shared an upper respiratory infection.

I read earlier that the two first diagnosed cases were in California (near San Diego), where two children in separate counties went to the hospital on March 28 and 30th, respectively.

Just saw this...
March 30 Veratect reported that a 47-year-old city attorney for Cornwall (Ontario) was hospitalized in a coma at Ottawa General Hospital following a recent trip to Mexico. Family members reported the individual voluntarily reported to the hospital after gradually feeling ill upon returning from his trip on 22 March. The source stated that the hospital did not know the cause of illness. The case was reportedly on a respirator and awaiting a blood transfusion, but sources did not provide symptoms or a suggested cause of illness. This information was available in our web portal to all clients, including CDC and multiple US state and local public health authorities, however no one had connected this mans illness with a potential crisis in Mexico.

So wrt Cytokine storm...why then did the healthy ones survive THIS flu? Shouldn't it be the opposite?
In the Swine flu of 1918 the Flu kept mutating, growing in strength till it became more lethal.
We're just at the beginning of the cycle. What's to prevent THAT from happening this time?

March 22...I think this flu has probably been circulating for some time (at least a couple of months), but obviously it was necessary for a certain number of cases to appear in a cluster to give it an identifying characteristic that would be noticed by people who track this kind of thing.

And in Mexico, they'd blow you off anyway.
