Almost a month after a special election in a heavily Republican congressional district, the Democratic candidate claimed victory Friday when his GOP opponent conceded in a race that focused attention on President Barack Obama's stimulus plan.
After the March 31 election in New York's 20th District, Democrat Scott Murphy and Republican Jim Tedisco were separated by a handful of votes with thousands of absentee ballots to be counted. For nearly four weeks, the lead flipped back and forth but Murphy's advantage started to grow this week and was more than 400 votes on Thursday.
Murphy said he expects to be sworn in next week, and that he's looking forward to getting to Washington where "the work's piled up." He said he received calls of congratulations from Obama and Gillibrand, both of whom had endorsed him.

There is no way the GOP can win the House in the mid-terms. There is no way they can win 86(?) seats in 2010.They blew it when they tried to be neo-marxist lite and spend spend spend.
The neo-marxist democrat party is now the party for a generation. The damage they will do will be permanent as there is no way the neo-marxist lite party aka the GOP will ever repeal what obama does.
funny how the recounts always go the democrats way.
This isn`t bad news, just expected news.
NO doubt about it.
Dittoes for the rest of what you write.
I’m sorry to say that you may be right.. with the inculcating of our children in school, into believing that the conservative viewpoint is not just wrong, it is Nazi like and planet damaging, I fear this country may never recover.
Dennis Prager says it all the time, that civilization is always on the brink of collapse, that it is fragile.
Very strange that a Democrat “wins” in a Republican district. Strange as a dumb nobody being hoisted into the highest office in the land.
yep.. you are darn right.. and that is why they were so furious over the Bush/Gore outcome.. they got caught, and the spotlight was far to bright for them to get away with their usual shenanigans.
Any doubt after the elections in ANY way and an addition of another Dem seat is added.
You’re right. Roosevelt’s Social Security proved harder to quit than cocaine.
Equation is simple: Bad candidate + bad campaign = loss. Even in a Republican district, with our voters as angry as they are, running a campaign with no theme and no point doesn’t get you a win.
The problems of theme & hypocritical pointlessness are BIG problems for all NYS Republican office-holders. They all want to play to the unions & special interests but then pretend that they are for tax cuts & smaller government to everyone else. Their only answer so far as to what they’re trying to do is — to get back into power. An insufficient reason. At least the Democrats know who they are.
I guess he didn’t reach across the aisle hard enough...
A 75000 Republican voter advantage in this conservative district and RNC/Steele cannot get a decent candidate to run? Pitiful.
6 months? Maybe, maybe not.
But, after implementing “cap and trade” that will “bankrput them” the coal industry and increase electricity by massive amounts and then nationalize the health care industry, THEN you`ll see a broken, diminished USA. These policies will NEVER be repealed if implemented because the GOP is just neo-marxist/democrat-lite.
All that will take time, perhaps 2 obama terms ( a certainty ) plus another decade. But time is on the neo-marxist democrat party`s side because the GOP is DONE.
This isn`t bad news, just expected news.
It is TERRIBLE news.
Terrible?
Wait until the circus gets wound up in regards to the interrogation methods and the neo-marxist democrats hold show trials on capitol hill !!!
The demagoging of the gop will continue for years, well past the mid-terms and will gaurantee an even larger neo-marxist/democrat party majorities in both house and senate.
You must be to young to have noticed that predictions of the demise of this or that party never really pan out. Unexpected events and factors have a way of overwhelming whatever reasoning lead to the predictions. Just when every demographic and cultural trend spells doom, it doesn't because of something nobody expected. Happens every time. Every generation of Americans need a reminder why Democrats should be kept away from the White House. Don't underestimate their ability to absorb the lesson.
The demafia never lost an election yet. They just ran out of time.
when i mean done i did not mean to imply they will cease to exist or be the minority forever.
by done i meant the founding principles of the US Constitution. the gop ignores original intent from the bastardization of the commerce clause to a dept. of education. the only area where a little attetion is paid comes when judicial nominees are put forward.
the continuing leftward tilt of the usa drives the gop further and further to the left as the left, the neo-marxist/democrat party, vacate ground they held as they advance forward and conquer.the vacated ground is then filled by the gop. the gop is rudderless.

Sad dittos back at you. The millenials don’t like our brand (the GOP OR conservatism), and we have lost suburbanites outside of the south. Counting on Barry O to (expletive) things up in a big way isn’t what I call great strategy.
