First 100 Days: Assault Weapons Ban (Abandoned?)
NBC NEWS ^ | 24 APR 09 | Pete Williams

WASHINGTON - Campaigning before a church congregation on Chicago’s South Side one Sunday in July 2007, Barack Obama said an epidemic of big city violence was “sickening the soul of this nation.”

Among the potential cures, he said, was permanently reinstating a ban on assault weapons.

One-hundred days into his presidency, President Obama says it remains a goal. But it is one the White House has been forced to abandon.

The NRA is on a roll. The Supreme Court ruled last year that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right of gun ownership, not merely the right of organized militias to arm themselves.

Unless the mid-term election brings a substantial change in the composition of Congress, an assault weapons ban has little chance of becoming law under Barack Obama, and ATF will not be able to count on a larger force of agents and inspectors.

Gun control, once considered a soccer-mom issue popular in suburban America, is again radioactive.

Join the NRA/GOA/SAS/2AF/JPFO today! Ever vigilant.

Either that or put the gang-banging gun-criminals in prison till they're 90.

Seeing as this "report" is from NBC, I'd tend to believe that it's simple disinformation designed to make us lower our guard.

And get your CCW permit. The training alone is worth the price.

Then you can buy your very own assault weapon. Just saying, not thinking you may need it very soon. Just remember the pictures of the Koreans during the last LA riots, standing on the rooftops with the empty streets below. Note the streets were empty, the rioters decided to go elsewhere.

I noticed while shopping at the flea market last week that the cost of a good Italian switchblade knife is going up. The newer “spring-assisted” pocket knives with the Harley and John Deere logos jumped up about 15% in the past month, while the cost of brass knuckles seems stable.

NBC, meaning GE, meaning the US Govt.

NBC is nothing more now than the overt propaganda arm of the Obama admin.

A CCW does not let you buy an assault weapon rifle. An assault rifle requires a lot of paperwork and money because an assault rifle is capable of full-auto and/or burst fire and those are heavily regulated by the ATF (i.e. Mexicans are NOT buying them in US gun stores and sneaking back to Mexico with them to sell to drug dealers!).

A pistol grip and black furniture does not make a rifle into an assault rifle.

That is a good symbol. It would be a very subtle pin or sticker.

The Obama admin has not abandoned this plot, but they see the handwriting on the wall for the present. They read websites like FR, they see thousands of rifles and cases of ammo flying off the shelves, they run up trial balloons in the House and Senate, and they know if they strike now, they will not only fail but also cause Dem losses in 2010.

If they can play good cop and artificially boost the economy for now, they hope to pick up a few more seats in 2010. Then they wait for a high-profile shooting, and then they strike. Then they write the law so it is all-inclusive, never expires and will be political Kryptonite for any future admin to abolish. Just as they will do with universal healthcare, etc.

The sidebar photo caption repeats (enhances?) the lie:

** FILE ** In this Nov. 7, 2008, file photo a soldier stands guard during the presentation in Mexico City of arms, captured in the largest seizure of Gulf drug-cartel weapons to date, about 288 assault rifles, 500,000 rounds of ammunition, numerous grenades and several .50-caliber rifles. As the State Department says firearms obtained in the U.S. account for an estimated 95 percent of Mexico’s drug-related killings, gun rights groups increasingly worry that an outbreak in violence at the U.S.-Mexico border could pave the way for a raft of new gun control measures. OK, YOU ARE RIGHT, BUT STILL THE EFFECT WAS GOOD RIGHT ... But be sure and get a rifle with all the furniture and options. Best way to scare the liberals the mostest.

Otherwise, just get a shotgun for those riot things. My choice for up close and personal...

This meets all your requirements. Maximum scary, maximum utility. The CCW is for the training, when, who, and what for shooting guidance and your state laws. If you like, a pocket pistol is a good accessory.

I have two AR15’s with all the goodies, but unless things degenerate into open street fighting, the Rem 870 Express with a Knoxx Stock and full-length mag tube is still my #1 weapon.

It is still possible to join the NRA for free for one year:

http://www.nrahq.org/nrabonus/

Also, if you choose the second option, you can get a highly reduced price on multi-year memberships: 2 years for only $25 instead of the regular $60, or a life membership for only $500 instead of the regular $1,000.

Me too, after hunting extensively with a 12 ga and OO buck, it is clearly the best weapon for close in panic time. It will drop them where they stand within 75 yards. And close is good enough.

The police know that, they just want scary for the media and the ignorants who read the newspaper.

How does anyone that defends the right to bear arms defend CCW laws?

For me, I justify it as reasonable regulation ... Even way back when, it wasn’t uncommon to restrict carry in the city. The old west was like that, many towns had no guns carried in town laws and restrictions.

Not saying I like it, just saying ...

I think the ‘must issue’ CCW laws have done more for the second amendment than all the rest combined, It desensitized the public to the liberal tripe of ‘blood running in the streets’. And for that we have to thank our very own former NRA President Marion Hammer, she has done us all a big favor.
