WILD-FIRED BY THE ZOO By SALLY GOLDENBERG

April 24, 2009 -- Situation wanted: Will work for hay.

Layoffs in the city have spread from the piggy traders on Wall Street to the animals at the Bronx Zoo.

The institution is closing four exhibits and shipping hundreds of creatures to zoos and aquariums around the country, officials told the City Council Cultural Affairs Committee yesterday.

They should think outside the box. They ought to open new exhibit area featuring corrupt Wall St. crooks who precipitated the crisis. Each of them should be housed in a different cage with a name tag and the rap sheet of their deeds. It will be a money-maker.

I am sure the zoo authority would have no problem finding the 'qualified beasts' in Wall St.:-)

Maybe the Joos and the diverse voters of NY could spring for some money to maintain the zoo. After all, they donate billions to criminals, Democrat politicians and scam artists(not to be redundant).

That’s a shame. It’s rated #5 on Best Zoos in U.S.A.

5. Bronx Zoo - New York, NY
The Bronx Zoo is the flagship of the largest network of metropolitan zoos in the country. With award-winning, cutting-edge exhibits featuring over 4,000 animals, there is no other zoo in the world that offers the diversity, superb viewing, and world-renowned expertise that assures a rewarding experience and the knowledge that visitors can make a difference in the world around them. Whether you’re nose-to-nose with Western lowland gorillas in our famous Congo Gorilla Forest , spotting snow leopards in our naturalistic Himalayan Highlands Habitat, or experiencing almost an acre of an indoor Asian rain forest, you’re always within roaring distance of the world’s most amazing wildlife.”

And is also listed by Forbes as one of the best zoos in the world.

I hope they are able to keep the other animals. Other States don’t need to pay any more taxes to fund welfare.

Who’s gonna shine the mandrills’ asses?

Obama says that we all must sacrifice.

The mandrills will have to learn to shine their own asses.

Something tells me it’s all happening at the zoo.
I do believe it, do believe it’s true.

I'd rather see the corrupt politicians brought to justice first.

They should think outside the box.

They could open a restaurant featuring exotic meat, or they could run high dollar trophy hunts.

“Who’s gonna shine the mandrills’ asses?”

Isn’t that what the Obamacorps is for?

It’s a light and tumble journey
From the East Side to the park;
Just a fine and fancy ramble
To the zoo.
Bus you can take the crosstown bus
If it’s raining or it’s cold,
And the animals will love it
If you do.

( ... )

The monkeys stand for honesty,
Giraffes are insincere,
And the elephants are kindly but
They’re dumb.
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages,
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum.
Zebras are reactionaries,
Antelopes are missionaries,
Pigeons plot in secrecy,
And hamsters turn on frequently.
What a gas! You gotta come and see
At the zoo.

This is a terrible shame. We took all our kids to the Bronx Zoo for maybe 40 years, at least several visits a year and often more. It was a wonderful place to get outside, walk around, and keep them entertained.

The World of Darkness was one of our very favorite exhibits. I can’t believe they’re going to close that. It’s VERY popular with kids, second only to the monkey house.

My original post was a wisecrack about not closing the World of Darkness. I didn’t read the whole article so I had no idea they’re closing one of the signature exhibits at the Zoo. What a shame. A very big mistake.
