10:49 a.m., April 24, 2009----While their political opinions may differ, University of Delaware alumni David Plouffe and Steve Schmidt, the two men who helped run the opposing campaigns for the 2008 presidential election, agree that President Barack Obama was a once-in-a-generation candidate and that young people have become an important part of the American political process.
Schmidt, who led the Republican campaign of U.S. Sen. John McCain, and Plouffe, who led the Democratic campaign of Obama, discussed their experiences with candor and humor before an audience of about 500 people on Thursday, April 23, in Clayton Hall.
The discussion was moderated by Ralph Begleiter, Edward and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence at UD. Joining Plouffe and Schmidt on stage as panel members were Josh Shannon, managing editor of The Review, and Stephanie Kraus, staff reporter for The Review.

"I've occasionally voted for a few Democratic Party candidates.
Steve Schmidt, McCain-Palin 2008 campaign manager
I would bet money that McCain himself voted for Zero in November. |

I can only pray that the Obamaloon is “once in a lifetime” and that his presidency lasts for a max of four years.
Stupid is as stupid does, and this guy is beyond stupid.
I think this Steve Schmidt owes us all an apology AND a refund of campaign contributions. Alternatively he can commit suicide today.
Looks like it.
He was horrible. I lost track of how many regional directors we had for the McCain campaign. My phone would ring and it would be a different one. Absolutely worst campaign ever. Never did like Schmidt and now I know why.
In other words, you've never held a real job, Steve, which accounts for your acute case of tone deafness.
Somehow, I find an odd comfort in that...
McCain might be a war hero but he sure surrounds himself with ****ty “friends.” Not very bright. America was doomed prior to the 11-04-08 election. This whole “election” fiasco was a setup on both sides. This is not America anymore.
Obama is only the front man for MoveOn.org. Soros pulls the strings and Obambi dances to it.
If Hussein would have been running against a ‘real’ republican campaign and candidate, he would have lost by 25 points.
Right you are.More people are starting to see that as true.
We lost because we had leaders who wanted to lose. There was no hunger, no ambition on our side. Those with hunger and ambition always win, people vote for them because they can sense it. Obama had the hunger, so did Reagan. McCain sadly did not. Think like a loser and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
Yep! TOTUS is programmed by Soros.
McCain is an opportunist. He would say or do anything to gain approval -- from the media.
This approach leaves you vulnerable when you're ahead -- you might misread the situation and say something stupid.
And it leaves you hopeless when you're behind. Because you start guessing what people want to hear.
Unprincipled Democrats can win the nomination and the election. But unprincipled Republicans cannot.
Principled men who think like losers (and an opportunist is a loser) will always lose. Principled men who think like winners and whose objective is to win will always win. Obama won mainly because he and his minions manipulated the system, in a way they cheated by hiding facts and having the propaganda machine present a candidate that did not and does not exist. We will continue to lose because the other side has already decided the rules of the game. In such cases when you are fighting an enemy who is unprincipled you will always lose if you let them kick you in the nuts and you insist on playing by queensbury rules. Sorry, it’s time for the rules of tit for tat, we have to stop bringing a wet noodle to a gunfight.
The recent elections in Minnesota and upstate NY are a precursor of the whipping we are going to get in 2010. The democrats (communists who infiltrated JFK’s party) will cheat lie and even murder to win. We need to understand this, the gloves have to come off and we need to understand that they are not the loyal opposition but rather a gang of criminals and thugs that need to be eradicated. We are in a civil war, and the civil part of the war is not being practiced by the other side. We under estimate the viciousness of our opposition at our peril.
Finally, someone has written the truth. I am in total agreement.
We don’t have a loyal opposition. It’s time to stop treating these marxists as such.
“We under estimate the viciousness of our opposition at our peril.”
Well said.
I think that you would be fun to play a game of chess with, because I think you would be a strong challenge.
