Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C-Saratoga) today issued the following statement after conceding the race for New Yorks 20th Congressional district:
"Mary and I would like to thank the citizens of the 20th Congressional district for their kindness, courtesy and patience shown during this extended campaign. This was a closely contested election that perhaps lasted a little longer than anyone may have expected or wanted. But it was important for our electoral process and for the hard-working people of Upstate New York that it be resolved fairly and decisively."Earlier today, I called and congratulated Scott Murphy on a hard-fought contest and wished him well as the next Congressman of the 20th Congressional district. I also expressed my willingness to work with him to ensure that the families of Upstate New York are not left behind as our nation strives for economic recovery.
"This was a close campaign every step of the way. Ultimately, it became clear that the numbers were not going our way and that the time had come to step aside and ensure that the next Congressman be seated as quickly as possible. In the interest of the citizens of the 20th Congressional district and our nation, I wish Scott the very best as he works with our new President and Congress to address the tremendous challenges facing our country.
"Finally, I would like to express my appreciation to all the volunteers, staff, supporters and most importantly my family, for their unending support and prayers. They all poured their blood, sweat and tears into this campaign and for that I will always be eternally grateful."
That’s right, because rats concede defeat and rinos concede victory. This is the mindset the GOP is coming in to these things.
Give us a break ~ never been a Democrat run for any office that he didn't cheat. They have no moral fiber. None of them are honest. Democrats cannot be trusted.
This was a race that should have been a turn of the tide and fell on is face.
Give me a break. Tedisco, the GOP, and Steele just did a bad job — that’s not hard to believe.
The last election (we’re talking November 2008!!) had Gillibrand (Dem) winning by 68,033 votes. Was that cheating too? How hard is it to believe that NY’s 20th would elect a replacement from the same party?
Finally, look it up. The district is mostly rural, there’s no room for conspiracy theories about ACORN either.

Not blaming the GOP for its failures is like denying last November ever even took place.
Hmmm. I think you fail to see the problem here.
That was the fairest and most honest balloting since the Athenians ostracized Themistocles.
Sorry if I was too harsh — just got fed up reading all the posts saying ACORN this, voter fraud that, on the Tedisco posts today.
The “problem” as I see it is that these conspiracy fantasies only serve as distractions from reality. The reality is simply that modern American politics are cyclical.
The best-case scenario for the GOP is that it regroups and wins in 2010, just like in 1994. Whether it can harness its grass roots to do that depends on whether people give up things like this birth certificate nonsense sooner rather than later.
Of course, lots of the base still believes the GOP doesn’t deserve to win yet. Maybe that’s valid.
Again, no offense intended.
I totally agree re: turning the tide.
I mean, you could see it as a big accomplishment (and sign of the times) that Tedisco was able to turn a 68,033-margin loss last November into such a narrow margin this time around. Close, but not quite.
There's no downside to this so don't worry about it. Just a bunch of crazoids trying to save America from an acolyte of the Antichrist! Perfectly harmless, so go on about your business.
You tell me what the chances are that the vote would be evenly split on a sample of over 155,000 votes.
Someone was cranking out false votes or changing vote totals to beat the band here.
For a good example of what Republicans are up against, check out the story at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2237382/posts
Your argument is equivalent to praising a golfer's superhuman aim because he put the golf ball on one pile of grains in the sand trap instead of some other pile of grains six inches to either side.
Sorry, steve-b, no sale.
Elections don’t come this close on such a large sample without tampering.
Your argument is baseless re: the golfer. The argument you believe is that two equal golfers will place the ball in the sand trap at almost the same place from the same tee point. Doesn’t happen in real life.
They go one way or another, usually by a fair margin.Even in a close election, the delta is more than two figures on this size sample.
A sample this size should yield a delta much larger than 25.
You can believe it was all legit if you want, but the numbers tell a different story. If you want to believe that this is the electoral equivalent of lightning hitting exactly the same spot twice, be my guest.
Get used to seeing this happen more and more often.
Because it will.
