Actually,a ‘FreeRider’ is someone who’s childless by choice.
Sad, isn’t it?
Tax season, bad economy, but I’m sure most folks could even fork over a fiver.. one less trip to Starbucks..
One thing I learned is you don’t encourage much support by calling people free loaders. It may be true, but all you’re trying to do is guilt people into an action.
Try a carrot. Remind people how resourceful, influential and important FR is to them and that it can go bye-bye if it is not fully supported by it’s fans.
****WAILS, stamps feet****
“But I’m dead broke and unemployed! I am too ugly to go out in daylight too. I promise to TRY when I CAN....
....PLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSEE!!!!!! please don’t HURT me!
What should I do ... sign up for food stamps? and send you the difference?
Must I thow myself onto the mercy of this starchamber?? Must I beg? “
Your humble servant,

I didn't find Free Republic until after I was disabled, but I still try to donate something every year.
FR Tote Bags for $50 pledges?
Good point.. just saw some numbers on how many tens of millions of visits we receive each month and hundreds of thousands of unique visitors, it seems that these things should take all but a day or two.. I understand how expensive bandwidth costs can get when you run something this massive..
True. And there is a huge Free Rider pinglist group here at Free Republic.
And when they show up.... All hell breaks loose.
Dig in the sofa for a buck or two. :->

Ditto. BTTT!
The only time financial supporters got a “premium item” for donating was when we gave away the personalized coffee mugs with a nice new graphic and “Damn the Liberals, Full FReep Ahead!” many years ago. I asked Jim if it was okay and he said yes but we had to compile the personal information (names, addresses, etc.) on our own.
Several other FReepers helped with the artwork, organization and fulfillment. We delivered about 500, Gene MacDonald produced them at cost and it cost me $5k.
I was hoping it was an idea that would catch on...;-].
I still have that mug. It hangs on the wall with the other “Mugs That Shall Not be Used”

Didn’t mean to offend, when I was involved with the fundraising I had a few “freeploader” moments of my own. I don’t know what the numbers are now but if I remember right at the time something like only 5% of regular FR users ever contributed.
BTW - You can’t go by front page hits alone, with so many archived FR pages out there it comes up on quite a few search engine hits and those are one page and out guests.
I think there are a few that should get a FR Cadillac like they give Mary Kay saleswomen.
Well, Captain, I intended to kick in a little money but I got chased out of the dang fountain. Will try again later.
I stopped my monthly recurring donation when I was vigorously attacked and denigrated here for my support of Ron Paul in the Republican primary last year, as he warned us back then about what has happened to the country today.
I may decide to resume, though. We’ll see.
