BAGHDAD - The suspected leader of an al-Qaida-linked militant network was captured Thursday by Iraqi military forces.
Abu Omar al-Baghdadi has been a key target for U.S. and Iraqi forces for years as the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq, an umbrella group of Sunni militant factions that is believed dominated by al-Qaida in Iraq.

I expect Owsama to be caught or killed soon, just in time for elPresidente to say that “this almost ends our Afghanistan war” except for the oil pipeline from the caspian of course.
Glad he is now caught, and can face appropriate punishment. I suppose Guantanamo is out for questioning him, and use as an interim holding facility before his trial -- according to Obama...

Thank goodness the Iraqi’s captured him. If we brought him back to the States he would be out on bond and on Meet the Press by Sunday.

Yes, I was of the impression Baghdadi was similar in status to our President. A very bad actor.
IIRC, and I see as I read in this article as well he was written off in the past as more of a legend, a myth if you will by authorities.
I doubt as to whether this is really all that impressive a capture. Perhaps a good show.

After reading the thread, I see that this guy is just a mouthpiece, but still... What has happened to Free Republic that it takes 3 hours for stories like this to get posted? I got this story around 0530 via Twitter (on my blackberry), and I kept waiting for it to show up on FR so I could get more info from people who know these players... Your thread finally appeared 3 hours later. Not knocking you, I’m sure you posted as soon as you saw it and verified that it hadn’t already been posted. I’m questioning why no one posted it sometime in the 3 hours before you did. (I can’t post threads from a blackberry.)
I always turn to FR first for news, but recently, it seems like FR is 30 min to a few hours behind other sources. What gives? I miss the old days when FR was the best source for breaking news.
