Gun sales going ballistic
Fears of regulation, crime spur sales of firearms and ammo

Everyone interviewed by The Post-Star for this story agreed ammunition of all calibers has gotten tougher to find, as gun owners stock up. Prices skyrocketed in recent years as metal prices went up, which caused many gun owners to stock up in anticipation of rising ammunition prices.

There are also concerns that some larger calibers, or those used by military-type weapons, could be banned, restricted or taxed more heavily.

One northern Warren County resident found out recently the government is paying attention to such ammunition sales.

West said a customer of his recently stocked up on .223-caliber rounds, a caliber often used in assault-style weapons. The customer bought 1,000 rounds a few months ago through a mail order company.

Shortly after the purchase, he received a visit from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, whose interest was apparently piqued by a large-scale purchase of that caliber.

"His wife was home. He was at church," West said.

Now that everybody loves us DHS can turn their attention to the real threats.

I'm wondering how the sales information from a rather small transaction got into their hands.

I bought a wrought iron sign this weekend that says, I dont call 911 and has a revolver hanging down from it. It has replaced my Beware of Dog sign.
I guess I will be getting my visit soon as well. Weird

This month-old story of dubious reporting was posted here last month, and there is extensive discussion.

I have contacted the reporter, who admitted that the claim is unverified double hearsay.

The unanticipated stimulus plan.

I’m happy with the firearms I have. Good to go. I am however stocking up on all ammo as funds allow.

1000 rounds of .223 is NOT a "large-scale purchase".

Oh jeez. You can shoot 1,000 rounds in a day easily. It's 33 loaded magazines full shot downrange, and the ammo would fill about 2 shoeboxes.

If they are sending federal agents out to explore 1,000 round purchases, they have WAY to many marginally-employed feds on the payroll.

If they are so hard up for domestic "right wing extremists" to fulfill Janet's fantasies, some of them might even figure out a way to boost their domestic right wing extremist "business."

I heard that first-hand from the VoPos in the DDR. Not fun.

"Traditional" heterosexual marriage. Check.
Church-going Christian. Check.
Gun owner. Check.

I know a "right-wing extremist" when I see one. Burn it down, boys.

That's odd. I did a full and partial title search with no results.

Cabela’s has 1000 round boxes of .223 just sitting out for sale (or at least, they used to before the shortage). Doesn’t make any sense that DHS would visit somebody for just 1000 rounds.

10,000... maybe,

but 1,000 is about par for the course when ordering that type of ammo.

Buying in lesser quantities doesn’t make sense.

1000 rounds attracts DHS? This one of the more frightening things I have heard from this administration.
