Director Ron Howard on Tuesday defended his film adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code" author Dan Brown 's "Angels & Demons" from criticism that it smears the Roman Catholic Church, heightening an ongoing battle over fictional depictions of the Vatican.
Howard, who also directed the 2006 movie adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code," posted a blog at The Huffington Post website saying that neither he nor his new movie "Angels & Demons," which debuts in May and stars Tom Hanks, are anti-Catholic.
"And let me be a little controversial: I believe Catholics, including most in the hierarchy of the Church , will enjoy the movie for what it is: an exciting mystery, set in the awe-inspiring beauty of Rome," Howard wrote....

It was a very good book. (a thriller) Personally, I can’t wait to see it and the Catholic church need to concentrate on *nonfiction* issues.

No mystery here. The late Peter Viereck wrote long ago that “Catholic-baiting is the anti-Semitism of the liberals.”

Go back to Mayberry Opie.
Slandering religion is a dispicable way to make money.

it’s christianity generally, as far as most people are concerned.
and yes, there are many tweaked-out idiots who believe it’s real. And that’s often the intention.

neither he nor his new movie "Angels & Demons," which debuts in May and stars Tom Hanks, are anti-Catholic. Isn't it outright anti-Christian by establishing a history that Jesus Christ's death and resurrection were a fraud and then establishing a timeline that the Church "knew" but covered up these "facts"?

He was cute as Opie.
It’s been pretty much downhill since then.

Both Howard and Hanks have turned out to be very far left total loony liberals. Pity.

I really liked the story. It was fun and interesting.
However, I will NEVER pay to watch a movie made by this marxist.

Brown this week announced that his follow-up novel to "The Da Vinci Code" will be released in September and is titled "The Lost Symbol." How about a conspiracy novel about the machinations of the liberal bigots in Hollywood franchising hate to keep regurgitating the myth that Catholicism and Christianity in general are a hoax deliberately concocted by subversives bent on some murky form of domination.
Note that the author is putting out yet another book in the "series". James Bond was a character in thrillers. He faced a different foe every time. It wasn't always the Church.
Note too that Yahoo made sure to get the release date (and stars) ink near the top of the article. "Controversy" was designed to general press, not boycotts.

Hollywood can't/won’ make an anti-islamic movie for fear it might offend. The stock answer that it “is not intended to offend” or “shouldn't offend” would never cut it if applied to Islamic (read Hollywood PC) sensibilities. The outcry from such a movie would be deafening.

Ron Howard turned the engineering firms that worked on the Apollo mission into “bad guys” too. Apollo 13 didn’t need a villain but Ronnie made industrialists bad anyway.
