Slow Roll Time At Langley
Washington Post ^ | April 22, 2009 | David Ignatius

Posted on 04/22/2009 8:34:22 AM PDT by La Lydia

At the Central Intelligence Agency, it's known as "slow rolling." That's what agency officers sometimes do on politically sensitive assignments. They go through the motions; they pass cables back and forth; they take other jobs out of the danger zone; they cover their backsides...in the words of one veteran officer, "hit the agency like a car bomb in the driveway." President Obama promised CIA officers that they won't be prosecuted for carrying out lawful orders, but the people on the firing line don't believe him. They think the memos have opened a new season of investigation and retribution. The lesson for younger officers is obvious: Stay away from a counterterrorism program that has become a career hazard.

Obama tried to reassure the CIA workforce during a visit to Langley on Monday. He said all the right things...But it had the look of a campaign event...Obama seems to think he can have it both ways -- authorizing an unprecedented disclosure of CIA operational methods and at the same time galvanizing a clandestine service...Put yourself in the shoes of the people who were asked to interrogate al-Qaeda prisoners in 2002. One former officer told me he declined the job..."We all knew the political wind would change eventually," he recalled....

One veteran counterterrorism operative says that agents in the field are already being more careful...They need legal advice. I'm told that in the case of an al-Qaeda suspect seized in Iraq several weeks ago, the CIA didn't even try to interrogate him. The agency handed him over to the U.S. military. Agency officials also worry about the effect on foreign intelligence services that share secrets with the United States...

War is indeed hell. And if the interrogation of these POS's saved the life of just one US soldier on the battlefield, then it was worth the effort.

As Cheney said, waterbiarding was effective in obtaining timely, preventative intelligence. And all the liberal left A$$ Hats at CIA who leaked info to the NY Slimes should be piloried.

As far as the CIA , itis a Schitzoid agency just like all of out=r agencies, full animals of all political spectrums. The CIA leadership under Bush made the mistake of NOT cleaning out the lefties. They should have been purged or posted to Monrovia permanantly.

What THIS is about, is to effectively destroy the CIAs ability to function, so that Obama can sebd his agents overseas to do dirty , Unamerican, treasonous things ( kick back schemes for the COngressional Black Caucus from African coutries for example , ( Jefferson was caught red handed.), and escape the CIA intel net. Mark my words. No one in the CIA will go anywhere near to collecting intel on Obama's executive agents overseas. Obama is putting the fear onto the CIA, especially on its patriotic officers. They will not be allowed to "leak" the way the lefty faction inn the CIA did with Bush.If they do, then the torture prosecutions will begin?

Eff Obama and all of his running dogs!Leak like a sieve CIA lads!!!!!!!

It's absolutely nauseating listening to these libtard politicians who care more about making terrorists feel more comfortable than they do about American citizens who died at the hands of monsters like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed .

Khalid WAS the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks. Highly educated, Khalid applied his imagination, expertise, and skills to originating an wide range of terrorist plots. These plots included conventional car bombing, political assassination, aircraft bombing, hijacking, reservoir poisoning, and, ultimately, the use of aircraft as missiles guided by suicide operatives.

It has been well-documented that after he was arrested and interrogated, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed resisted all conventional means of collecting vital information and that the decision to use waterboarding was as a last resort. The decision paid off, however, as Khalid began singing like a bird, giving insights into the operation of Al-Qaeda that none other could provide, short of Osama Bin Laden himself.

Terrorists have never stopped planning or attempting to carry out attacks on American soil -- despite what the liberal scum claim. There is the very real prospect that terrorists will get their hands on a biological agent, like Anthrax or Smallpox, chemical agent like nerve gas or Sarin, radioactive material, or, a nuke loaded on board a cargo vessel.

With the prospect of terrorists plotting to kill hundreds of thousands of Americans and injure millions more, you know that the bleeding heart liberals in government are going to cry crocodile tears for the poor terrorist we arrest and who knows all about when and where the attack will take place. The libtards will say, "Nah-nah-nah. Let's not humiliate the terrorist. Let's treat him humanely and be gentle with him, and don't do anything to make him feel bad."

Meanwhile, the rest of the libtards will be screaming, "Torture is unconstitutional," forgetting that the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause in the Constitution applies only to American citizens, not foreigners or traitors. They'll say, "Torture is prohibited under the Geneva Convention," ignoring the fact that terrorists violate every single precept of the Geneva Convention.

The libtards who were against the Iraq War ought to be taken over there to see the kinds of torture that Saddam inflicted on hundreds of thousands of his own people and those of neighboring countries for even minor offenses.

In fact, take them over to the countries that BO has been gladhanding and butt-kissing to see their methods of "interogation" where torture is used on its own civilians, not to prevent any terror attacks, but to obtain confessions for things they didn't do.

What I fear the most is an EMP attack on America that would turn us into a third-world country. The nation who has been planning to do that right now is Iran with the help of N. Korea. Iran is claiming that they are sending satellites into space, which is about as truthful as saying that they are not building nukes.

If there is another terrorist attack on our soil, "God forbid," under Obama's watch, you can bet the ranch that the Wuss-in-Chief will blame America for "bringing it upon ourselves," and apologize to the World.

The thought of the Obama Administration prosecuting officals under the Bush administration is the last straw, considering the tax cheaters, embezzlers, racists, money launderers, and other lawbreakers that are in his Administration, not to mention the fact that Obama is Constitutionally ineligible to be President and may, in fact, be an illegal alien.

Isn’t turning the United States into a Third World country exactly what BO has been planning to do all along, with the assistance of his supporters in Congress? Isn’t that what George Soros has in mind? I see this as part of a larger attempt to bring down our country, and it seems to be working exactly the way they wanted.

Pretty excellent summary. And for those who might decry it, witness the fact that small arms and ammunition are flying of the shelves as we speak, and have been for a year or more.

Polarik. America agrees with you.

The CIA is *not* on our side. The CIA is a rogue organization with its own agenda.

It's been nearly 10 years since I had any dealings with them. But it's my impression - they are often ordered to do one thing, expecting a certain result, but no understanding of the big picture.

In the eighties they were totally penetrated by Soviet/Warsaw Pact agents, now?
