Engine Out, Plane Lands On Havendale Boulevard
WINTER HAVEN | A pilot of a home-built airplane was able to land safely on Havendale Boulevard in Winter Haven on Sunday morning after experiencing engine failure.
The 22-year-old pilot, Kyle Davis, and his passenger, Joe Surowiec, were not injured in the landing and declined medical treatment, officials said.
The landing of the dual-seat SkyRanger airplane shortly after 10 a.m. was caught on video by Surowiec, a professional videographer, and was posted on YouTube.

Too bad their engine wasn’t as good as their cameras!
I don’t know much about flying but that was pretty funny. He pulled into a parking lot. Never lost his cool.
Interesting to look up and to the right and see the numerous power lines. Consider that the outcome could have been quite different had the landing been a bit more to the right, or if they tangled with any overhead wires crossing the highway. Quite lucky guys, but skilled too in keeping calm and getting down safely. Kudos to both of them!
The guy remained cool under pressure. It looked like it had a sphincter factor of about 9.5.
Read the book "The Survivor's Club," by Ben Sherwood.
Your statement is the essence of why some people survive and others do not.
When you are prepared and keep your cool, it's amazing what you can endure.
Remember the recent "Miracle on the Hudson." Same story. Sully was prepared for anything and stayed cool as ice.
You practice loss of engine power a lot learning to fly.
Through all phases of flight.
And your always looking where to put down safely.
My parents had a Cessna Cardinal RG for a number of years. Mom took lessons to learn how to land. Period.
Skeptical.
And the pilot and co pilot in upstate NY lost their minds and so many lives were lost.
It’s true, keep your cool and you are much more likely to survive.
I was too, however, I live here and that road is always busy... especially at that hour of the AM. It was close to the airport, too, so the pilot was trying to make it back when he put it down.
Some people take lessons only in how to take off; some only in how to land.
I think I prefer the latter.
