Russia has stationed its forces just 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the Georgian capital, in violation of the EU-brokered cease-fire that ended last year's brief war. And in recent weeks, it has sent even more troops and armored vehicles to within striking distance of the city ahead of street protests against Georgia's president.

My personal opinion also. But put I it out to see what anybody else thought. I think she has started to put her toe into these matters with her letter to Gates. I guess we shall see what she does when the Russians go in.

and Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, etc have got to be scared to tears. Those poor countries have had a long hard time with Russia, and have only had a few years of freedom. But, they are small and poor compared to Russia. Hard to create a professional military in those countries capable of holding off Russia on their own given their need to focus on rebuilding their entire country - infrastructure, education, economy. And the only country capable of helping them, is now out of commission.

Yep - on their way to Moldova. (After all, gotta protect their "citizens" in Transnistra, dontchaknow.) My guess during Georgia Round 1, was that the Russians want to hook up a physical land connection between them and Iran. At that point they will announce a mutual defense pact with Iran. An Israeli attack on Iran would be an attack on Russia. Similar to the NATO pact. Israel's only option at that point would be the Samson End game.

The good news for Poland at least, is that they are now part of NATO. Of course NATO could turn their back, like Britain and France did back in 1939.
