McCain facing 2010 primary
Politico ^ | Ben Smith

Posted on 04/21/2009 9:25:25 AM PDT by Hawk720

Social conservatives tolerated John McCain as the party's nominee, but never trusted him, and he now appears to be facing a serious primary from the right in Arizona next year.

Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, is announcing today he's resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary.

From a forthcoming release:

"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said. "He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn, opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

I don’t live in Arizona, but if I did, I’d sure be voting AGAINST this wanker. John, it’s time to retire. Take a hint, and take a hike.

His daughter is indeed unfortunate, but she isn’t a traitor.

John on the other hand has ventured down that road IMO. His anti-American stances on some issues have cause me to believe the guy hates that we are a sovereign nation, and would like to change that ASAP.

He is indeed unfit to hold public office. I’ll have to donate to Simcox. I’d also be willing to go door to door for him a few times.

I live in the next state over, but McCain has been screwing the whole nation over from his Senate perch, and I’d love to see him voted off it.

On the other...how much legislative or political experience does he have?

Good question....how much legislative or political experience did the Founders have?

(hint - they wanted us to have a citizen legislature for a reason)

As opposed to McLame, huh.

A wooden cigar store Indian would be preferable.
Seriously.

A carving c/wouldn't hurt the GOP.

Yes, the GOP will try to destroy Simcox and the NRSC will support McCain.

The GOP is very corporatist in this sense and will always, barring an indictment, support the incumbent.

The last election was the people's indictment of Sen. McCain. The only reason he got the support he did was because of his running mate and the thought of his opponent's policies were abhorrent.

Simcox better prepare himself and get well versed on many issues, not just immigration. Also, he better learn how to respond to the race baiters on this issue.

Along the lines of what you said, if he gets even 75% right it’s a damned site better than 15%.

McStain has been a blight on our nation.

I’m also in Pa and I agree with you about Toomey. This time Spector won’t have the weight of Santorum and Bush coming in and campaigning for him. He barely won last time. However, the Republican party (via John Cornyn) is already lining up on Snarlin Arlen’s side. I’m sure they’ll do the same for McCain. Which is why I belong to the Republican party, but don’t proclaim it. They are interested in electing republicans, not conservatives.

Word of advice to Chris Simcox, Make a call to that Alaska governor just to see if she would be interested in campaigning for you.

LOL!!! That would be classic!!!

McCain would poop his pants if that happened LOL

The GOP is very corporatist in this sense and will always, barring an indictment, support the incumbent.

Well, we the people need to stand up and step in for Simcox, Hayworth, or whoever the best primary opponent against McCain ends up being.

We need to organise to let the GOP (and this applies most to registered GOP) know that they will not get a dime from us until they support conservative candidates - even in primaries against entrenched, RINO incumbents. Not a single dime. In fact, we need to organise our own CONSERVATIVE PAC which is completely unaffiliated with the GOP in any way, shape, or form and which will be dedicated to supporting CONSERVATIVE candidates - whatever their party label might be - in elections.

I don't believe we need to "throw all incumbents out." I'd kinda like to see folks like Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, etc. stay in office. But I don't believe in rallying around the incumbent either, if he or she is a RINO, just because they have my party's label.

And face it - the issue of illegal immigration alone is important enough to toss McCain onto the heap, even looking aside at all the other junk he's done.

Folks, can you imagine what would happen if 10 million conservative families (and they are out there, yes) each gave $100 to a conservative PAC? That'd be $1 BILLION dollars. That's a lot more money than Obama had. Imagine if we conservatives all went in and pooled our resources and used them to flood conservative candidates like Simcox and Toomey with support?

How quickly we forget Reagan’s commandments. McCain is the least of our problems at the Federal level right now.

I understand and concur with Regan's commandments...I don't believe that McCain qualifies as a Republican though.

If God answers my prayers, Snowe, Collings, Spector and McCain will be thrown out on their liberal butts while real conservatives win each state.

God does give us miracles daily, it could happen....

Agreed, a PAC that is more conservative with $1bil. would get some attention.

PAC's are expensive to set up and administer. We need to as the Warren Zevon song said, "..send money, guns and lawyers..."

Maybe not the guns but the money and lawyers are definitely required. And then how do you reach 10 million families and convince them to donate, more money needed for fundraising?

Look, you are right a $1billion would get some attention since money is what talks in politics.

Also, I just threw out some possible problems but don't take that as an objection to your idea, just some questions on my part as to the mechanics of setting up a PAC.

Senator McCain, I have really admired your military past including your tribulations from the Forrestal disaster and being a POW. However, you have been one lousy politician. The condition of the GOP and to some extent, the country has your fingerprints on it.

All I can say is.....Go CHRIS GO!!!!

Cris better figure out if he can also beat the Dem candidate. My guess is that AZ Dems are chortling over this since they know Simcox is not a heavyweight conservative. It will be interesting to see if another conserv Pub also gets into the primary battle.

McCain?

This McCain?

FAIL!

The GOP should put a dog in the fight... who's actually intent upon wining.   McWeevil wouldn't hunt Penny Pritzker in 2008.  He laid down like a woosie.  Why should we believe Juan would act any differently in 2012?

And with his pro-homotional daughter on the loose....  maybe Juan should just STFU and take his pension.
