Mexican drug cartels have displaced the mafia as the "number one organized crime threat" in the United States, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Monday as his Senate committee heard testimony in Phoenix on border violence.

Lieberman, an independent Democrat from Connecticut, and Sen. John McCain, a Republican on Lieberman's panel, told FOX News that the United States needs to step up the fight against the drug cartels. The two senators were in Arizona, McCain's home state, to hear from local officials on their advice for dealing with the drug-fueled violence many fear is spilling across the border.

But Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said the Department of Defense has effectively denied her request to send 250 additional National Guard troops to the Arizona-Mexico border to help authorities battle immigrant and drug smuggling and related violence.

But...if we stop the drug cartels, who will smuggle in all of "God's children" to pick Juan's lettuce and strawberries at less than $50/hour?

They have been so busy trying to grant amnesty and benefits to all of "God's children" that they didn't have time to realize that they were rewarding drug smugglers and other organized criminal cartels.

Wow, who would have guessed that criminals would break the law and enter the United States as illegal immigrants? I thought only honest, law abiding, hard working people broke the law to get into our nation. Oh, I forgot, those are the people patiently waiting for their visa so they can come to America legally.

When are the pro-amnesty folks like Lieberman, McCain and all their liberal buddies going to admit that their refusal to enforce the law and protect our southern border has created the very problem they are now wringing their hands over?
