Palin's Personal Choice
The Washington Post ^ | 4/20/09 | Ruth Marcus

Posted on 04/20/2009 8:12:02 AM PDT by steve-b

I'd like to thank Sarah Palin for her bravery in explaining the importance of a woman's right to choose. Even braver, the Alaska governor made her eloquent case for choice at a right-to-life fundraising dinner.

That was not, of course, Palin's intention in revealing that she momentarily considered having an abortion. Twice, actually -- once when she discovered she would be a mother at 44, again several weeks later when she discovered that her baby would have Down syndrome.

I'll quote Palin at length, partly because I want readers to see that I'm not taking her remarks out of context, even more because the account of her anguished choice about whether to "change the circumstances" is so gripping and so genuine....

Abortion rights:

Killing the disabled for the sake of the strong.

How dare this woman twist Palin’s words to try to say that Palin is unwittingly pro-choice?! This column is disgusting. I plan to write a comment, and I hope Palin responds to her. These types of people who lament that abortion is an unfortunate reality make me angry. Homicide is not a viable choice.

Isn’t Ma Palin an advocate of states rights regarding this issue and asserts it’s not a federal gov’t perogative to decide nationwide?

It's not. At least, not via Judicial fiat. Pass an Amendment.

Sarah’s quote in the article convinces me that she would be an excellent choice to head the GOP in 2012! Although that gasbag Newt doesn’t think so.

The author is an idiot.

Ok, it's the Post, so that's probably redundant, but it needed to be said.

The fact that someone can be tempted at all to do evil in no way excuses those who do not resist that temptation. Have we not all at some point in our life faced the temptation -- even if only for a moment -- to do something we knew was wrong, whether it be to steal, lie, hurt or kill someone, cheat on a spouse, etc.? The difference, of course, is in resisting the temptation and not succumbing to evil.

Women who chose abortion in order to advance their careers (in journalism, for example) seem to grasp at any straw to justify their decision to kill their own child. It’s sad to see and sad to read.

How many dead aborted children do you think Ruth has?

Does it diminish Christ's sacrifice on the Cross to know that he prayed to have this cup taken away in the Garden?

How many people, in a brief moment of emotion, contemplate theft, murder, and a host of other crimes, that they never follow through on because it’s wrong. Does the fact that thoughts like those might cross a person’s mind legitimize those choices? Of course not.
