Is Modern Society Too Complex to Understand?
PajamasMedia ^ | 4/19/09 | Matt Peterson

The late great astronomer Carl Sagan was once famously lampooned by Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show for saying “billions and billions” on the hit PBS show Cosmos in a unique voice when describing astronomical distances.

Well, we are beyond astronomy now, beyond billions and billions and into the unreal realm of trillions.

The Federal Reserve recently announced that it was injecting another $1 trillion into the financial system. China owns U.S. Treasuries to the tune of 1.4 trillion rapidly weakening dollars. On April 2, Congress approved President Barack Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget. New estimates from Congressional Budget Office project U.S. federal budget deficits of $9.3 trillion over the next decade if (shock) Obama gives away his trillions in new spending.

These are sums of unimaginable magnitude. And yet they are thrown about as if everyone has the slightest conception of what they mean.

A trillion is a thousand billions. It is a million millions. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to put this number in perspective, pointing out that you could spend a million dollars a day from the birth of Jesus until today and still not have spent a trillion dollars.

Hell no it’s not too complex. Postmodernist elitists, in aiming to eradicate modernity and all it has achieved, work mightily to make it seem complex. That is it in a nutshell.

“pointing out that you could spend a million dollars a day from the birth of Jesus until today and still not have spent a trillion dollars.”

Oh merciful heavens.

In a recession, tax cuts should be a priority.
Not difficult.

DO NOT SPEND WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE

Not difficult.

Let’s simplify and forget all the suffixes and zeroes. Bush had a deficit of 4 in 2002 and took it down to 2 in 2007. The deficit was clearly on a trajectory to zero.

It then went back to 4 in 2008 due to bailouts.

Obama is now taking it to 16 in 2009

4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 4 Bush in 5 years
4 - > 16 Obama in one year

Simple enough?

Too simple (and true) for our deluded fellow countrymen to understand. Besides, you’re a conservative....so they’ve been taught not to believe anything you say.

Common sense tells you that you can't spend your way to prosperity. But you can spend your way to ruination.

Which is precisely what they are attempting to do...ruin a nation.

Is modern society too complex? Yes and no. I believe its suceeded too way. As a result, many people have lived their lives insulated from common sense. As a result, people become genuinely confused about what really works and what doesn’t becuase they have no real experience with crushing poverty or oppression. That certainly explains the increase in liberals and/or progressives.

Not to worry though. When the sh!t really hits the fan, all will become crystal clear once more.

No. Some people just refuse to face certain unpleasant truths that violate their commie-utopian-dystopian worldviews.

In reality, very few things in this world are very complicated. The entire Western Civilization is founded on 10 rather simple commandments. A simple bell shaped curve applies to nearly all human activity.

Most of what appears to be complicated are nothing more than rationalizations, piled one upon the other, to make immoral behavior seem moral.

I have a serious question. If China has $1 trillion and we print $1 trillion out of thin air, didn’t we just steal $500 billion from China? Am I not understanding economics or what? I know its 1.4 but for simplicity sake, honestly how does this work?

Obama is simply taking the term “be fruitful and multiply” to a new level and context.

You’re on to it, DITA. At the same time, we deliver the bill for the theft to future generations of Americans.
