President Obama came to the Summit of the Americas pledging to "re-engage" with Latin America. He'd wanted to focus on the economy, energy, and security, but other issues ended up getting more attention as he shook hands with one of America's fiercest critics and called for a fresh start in relations with Cuba.
President Obama gets a surprise greeting from Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
This dynamic played out today as President Obama met with the heads of state of the 12 countries of South America.
"I have a lot of learn and I very much look forward to listening and figuring out how we can work together more effectively," Obama said.
But in front of cameras, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made a point today of giving President Obama a copy of a 1971 book that assails the "pillaging" of Latin America by Europe and the United States, a book the White House indicated the mono-lingual president is unlikely to read.
"I think it's in Spanish, so that might be a tad on the difficult side," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

I’d have given Chavez a copy of “Guide to the Perfect Latin American Idiot” by Plinio Apuleyo Mendoza, Carlos Alberto Montaner, and Alvaro Vargas Llosa

I am getting some leaks from within Japan here that maybe some sensitive, behind the scenes negotiations are underway for Obama, when he visits Japan later this year,
TO VISIT HIROSHIMA OR NAGASAKI and apologize for US actions. This is no joke. The source is within opposition Japan "Democratic Party". (Minshuto). You heard it here first folks.Japan TV also showed him accepting the anti-US book from Chavez with a big sh*t eating grin and handshake. This guy is a real work of art, isn't he?

a book the White House indicated the mono-lingual president is unlikely to read. Pick up a copy of the Arabic version, then. Or Indonesian. He's a mono-lingual president alright, he speaks in one tongue, a forked one. Lashon hara. The language of the Teleprompter of the Tower of Babel.

Our president — is there any America-hater whose *ss he won’t kiss?

Obozo practically LEVITATED OUT OF HIS SEAT TO RUSH to chavez and grab the book. Well it all makes sense when you see Obama's answer to "What did you think of the book?" That's at 00:29, but watch the [arrogance from] the beginning.

Obama is like a little boy at these events. All eager to meet his heroes! Like a kid at a major league game. Can't wait until the game is over so he can get the autograph!

Our president is there any America-hater whose *ss he wont kiss? It's a good thing Arafat is dead. The kissy-lips under that greasy kaffiyeh would be too much.

B.O. is a national stench that just won’t wash off. “Embarrassing odor” is an understatement; the olfactory assault continues unabated.

Did Chavez really call Obama an ignoramus in the past?
hahaha at least there is some comedy among the tragedy.
To: melt
Pres. Obama should have slipped Chavez a small copy of the U.S. constitution immediately thereafter from his breast pocket, and suggested Chavez look it over for some good ideas. THAT would have been priceless.

I don't expect he will appear at the Yasukuni shrine to
pay his respects.
I would, but then, I'm an old warrior who should probably
be in a monastery by now.

This is where The Conservative Republicans should pack up and go and meet with with the new Govt. of Israel. Remember the Logan Act, not that it applies to Nancy Pelosi or other Democrats, but you can bet it'd apply to Congressional Republicans.

No, no, no...according to Alisyn of the Friends, poor Barry was being all presidential in discussions with other world leaders when Hugo seized the opportunity to pull an alpha male stunt on him while Barry was sitting down and thus in an inferior position. And this was all after Barry was so kind to go up to Hugo and shake his hand. She concluded that of course Barry knows his South American history and did not need Hugo's book to educate him. Clayton then reported that he went to Barnes & Noble yesterday to purchase the book which was practically flying out of the store. Next up, they will discuss the book because everyone wants to know just what's in it. (rolling eyes)
