President Obama came to the Summit of the Americas pledging to "re-engage" with Latin America. He'd wanted to focus on the economy, energy, and security, but other issues ended up getting more attention as he shook hands with one of America's fiercest critics and called for a fresh start in relations with Cuba.
President Obama gets a surprise greeting from Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
This dynamic played out today as President Obama met with the heads of state of the 12 countries of South America.
"I have a lot of learn and I very much look forward to listening and figuring out how we can work together more effectively," Obama said.
But in front of cameras, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made a point today of giving President Obama a copy of a 1971 book that assails the "pillaging" of Latin America by Europe and the United States, a book the White House indicated the mono-lingual president is unlikely to read.
"I think it's in Spanish, so that might be a tad on the difficult side," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

Try the writings of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, not to mention several others aka the Founding Fathers. They’d catch you up to speed in no time as to what America is all about. Oh wait, that’s not what you care about.

I continue to be astounded that the President of the United States would actually tell another leader...a leader who has condemned this country AND called Obama himself an “ignoramus”... that he “has a lot to learn”....

Now We Learn that the writer, William Ayers, must know him on a very close, personal level in order to write such a detailed Tome, and now this week, We learn that Mr Ayers has a very close, personal, and working relationship with a Leading Terrorist Dictator, Hugo Chavez who is a self declared Enemy of The United States and Democracy! Imagine that! and then Obana gives Chavez a warm brotherhood handshake, you just can’t make this Crap UP!
If that is indeed the case, Obama probably already has an autographed personalized copy in his library.
Well you do have to give him some credit because, He is the first President in the history of this country to use this foreign policy approach of groveling, begging for forgiveness and appologizing not just to our allies but to our very enemies and the enemies of Democracy.
Most likely he has forgotten that in this world there are regimes that want to be the power brokers, there are enemies that cannot be negotiated with and want us destroyed, apparently he intends to play right into their hands.
