Video: GOP rep who voted for TARP booed mercilessly at tea party
Hot Air ^ | April 18, 2009 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Emphasis on mercilessly, especially when he says, “I have devoted my life to the conservative cause.” The Palmetto Scoop caught it all, and no wonder: Barrett’s been eating crap from South Carolinians for his TARP vote for months so everyone knew what was coming here, right down to the guy screaming “Go home!” for the full six-minute duration. Believe it or not, according to CNN, Barrett’s planning to run for governor next year. Don’t get your hopes up, Gresh.

Normally the sight of a Republican being booed off a stage would be instant “Daily Show” material, but Stewart’s naturally got his own narrative for the tea parties. They’re about Obama, Obama, and nothing but Obama. Just ask Cody Willard.

I was told at our Tea Party that Allen Boyd, our Blue Dog Dem, called and asked to speak and was told “No thank you.”

It should come as no surprise that disingenuous inside-the-beltway types would try to weasel their way onto the tea party bandwagon. Still, the gall of this guy Barrett is almost unbelievable.

After that encounter with his constituents, this loser might ought to start thinking about moving out of SC altogether...

Wow! Ya think he got the message?

No he didn't. The fact that he continued to speak despite being booed off the stage shows that he is totally tone deaf when it comes to politics.

He probably went home thinking everyone thought he was the highlight of the day. What a doofus.

I don’t know anything about the guy, or his voting record, but I do admire him for standing up and taking it

Are you nuts? The guy was a moron who thought this was a gathering of Republicans. The TEA party has nothing to do with Republicans, it has to do with IDOIT TONE DEAF politicians who have voted our country into bankruptcy. He voted for the bailouts and TARP and he was the target of our wrath. If he was too stupid to realize what kind of gathering he was being invited to, then he is too stupid for words.

His “one mistake” was TARP, and TARP is the acid test.

That is correct.

One has to assume that if he was our current governor that he would be taking the stimulus money that Sanford is declining.

Wow, finally a reasonable post from Allahpundit. I wonder when Ed Morrissey will finally kick him out.

In what way are Allahpundit's posts unreasonable? I don't follow him closely.

I agree and I wish we were able to hear his words, we treated him like a conservative speaker on a college campus. Yeah he voted for tarp, I feel they should have given him the silent treatment it would have spoken more loudly than Boos. The silence would have communicated the notion that our concerns are met with the same silence we receive from our representatives when we voice objections to TARP etc.etc.

On the contrary. Silence would have been seen as acceptance of his BS. Boos were entirely appropriate. Most tea parties were calling for no politicians speaking at all, and I have to agree with that policy. This is not about the republicans, but about conservatives and being fed up with politicians of any party.

I said what I said because of the conversations I have with women on the nursing units where I work. Looking also at the Demographics of the last presidential election also tell me that a lot of women voted very differently from what their husbands and sweet-hearts voted.

Looking at the construction and the packaging of the political adds from the Democrats; the whole of the marketing efforts appeal to women. As I don’t know you, I would have had no idea that you personally would have been affected by my comments. I was speaking in a general sort of way about a situation in which the politico class have divided race against race, religion against religion and even men from women.

As a matter of fact, why take umbrage if some-one should question your values...proclaim them proudly!

As much of a RINO as Graham is, every conservative pol should memorize his statement about the tea parties on Fox News Sunday this morning and repeat it any time the subject comes up. If someone had handed me the text of what he said without tellling me who said it, I would have thought it was from the Limbaugh show.

Too bad I can’t trust that he means it.

Most tea parties were calling for no politicians speaking at all, and I have to agree with that policy.

I disagree. They were right to boo, and now Republicans can get the message - it's time to change. Our next move should be to reach out to RINOS and say "Please apologize and promise you won't vote for any bailouts or stimulus bills ever again, or get out of GOP." If they do that, I'm willing to give them a chance.

Listen to Arizona State Senator Jonathon Paton and Arizona State Congressman Frank Antenori speak at Tucson Tea Party. (Paton's also an Army reservist and combat veteran, Antenori is retired Special Forces.) They are examples of what politicians should be like.

It won't help. the repubs follow the doctrine that we have no where else to go and will vote for what ever piece of shi cra poo doo politician they put up. And as far as I can tell, we still hear people talk about the lesser of two evils. Prove me wrong - let's see Bloomberg, the demonrat in republican clothes, go down to defeat in NY. Let me see Governor Suntan lose his bid to replace the current RINO Martinez in the US Senate from Florida -- and let it happen because we all voted for a third party, not because we stayed home. The only thing that will eliminate RINOS is when the Roves see they LOSE votes.

I’m not saying to let up on RINO’s, just give them a chance to change as we are voting them out. Some might want to change.
