VIENNA -- President Barack Obama's decision not to prosecute CIA operatives who used questionable interrogation practices violates international law, the U.N.'s top torture investigator said Saturday.
In a brief telephone interview, Manfred Nowak, an Austrian who serves as a U.N. special rapporteur in Geneva, said the United States had committed itself under the U.N. Convention against Torture to make torture a crime and to prosecute those suspected of engaging in it.

The UN made him do it, i.e., prosecute those who “tortured” AQ operatives. Obama will use this as the pretext to continue his witch hunt against the Bush administration.

FGS! I’m sick and tired of the rest of the world telling us what we can do. Get US out of the UN and the UN out of US! Same for any other “treaties” we may have signed that gives anyone but US the right to decide our laws and our destiny.

Didn't President Bush jump several judicial hurdles regarding the techniques used, and received an OK??

Obama needs cover for the torture his administration’s agents may yet carry out against its perceived enemies.

I expect that this administration will ether make it impossible for Bush to travel abroad or worse yet hand him over to the un for prosecution.

There was no torture. Sorry if what the CIA did to those Gitmo inmates was torture then every parent who spanked a child, took away privileges or put Snooky in a time out is also guilty. And we can scrap all those Driver's Ed films of carnage, the whole Scared Straight approach to crime prevention and threats of imminent collapse from vegetable deprivation. The UN can perform an anatomically challenging act upon themselves.

I dont want much, but it sure would be nice to have a nation with a
head of state that loved our country.
The United Nations trashes us from its New York headquarters constantly. It works against our interests constantly. I has opened up
satellite offices across our nation. It seeks to dictate what our internal and international policies will be. It is an affront to our sovereign rights as a nation to have it doing this. And its an insult of the highest order to have it doing it from our soil. Granted, it has probably been gifted with the soil it sits on, and is considered to be neutral territory.
That is something that can be remedied in a matter of months. The process should begin...

well darn... Will Barry let that pesky little document called the Constitution and our national soverenty get in his way? Will we see Barry grovel and bow before the UN thugs? .. (does he actually think he’s at the point that he can get away with it yet?) He’s already shown his distain for ‘we the American tax payers’ and the country he’s supposed to promote and protect. .. For someone like Barry, who is totally inexperienced with having to make decisions, I wonder to whom he will delegate this decision while he’s out on his never-ending campaign tour.

It’s possible that a more devious mechanism is being set into play by President Zero.
As I understand it, the International Criminal Court does not have jurisdiction over these “crimes against humanity” where there is a prosecution by the government where the crime took place or having control of the accused.
What President Zero may be doing is declining US prosecution so that the ICC will then have jurisdiction. Since almost all countries (except the US, so far, at least) have signed on for the ICC, presumably an ICC arrest warrant will be honored by virtually every country in the world (again excluding the US).
This may be too conspiracy minded, but if my analysis is correct, it would set up an arrest and prosecution if any of the CIA agents or elected and appointed officials, such as W, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, etc. step foot outside the US. President Zero would then be able to say that the matter was beyond his control...

You could very well be right. There are already outstanding charges against Rumsfeld and Cheney in Spain and a few other countries. Such an admission by the USG using official documents does lay the predicate for other countries to take action if we won't. I think you are on to something.
This is all part of the Left's tactics to demonize and eliminate the opposition. The DHS analysis of potential right wing terrorism is just another part of it.

We've been over this stuff before. Manfred Nowak has even written a book or two, and made comments all over the world for years and years.
In Manfred's world if little boys try to look up little girl's dresses and the state does not prosecute the little boys involved, they are facilitating degrading behavior tantamount to torture.
So much for Manfred. Personally I think the guy is a sexual pervert.

Comrade Zero is not smart enough to think this one out but some of his closest associates have in mind prosecuting the previous administrations ~ not just "W"'s, but his father's, Bill Clinton's, and maybe even Jimmy Carter's.
Although not widely known in America some high ranking Democrats in the past actually believed in democratic process and a republican form of government. The Obamistas intend to hang them from lamposts in DC.
