MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department found that there is a serious problem with its guns.
Officer Vidal Colon was injured over the weekend in a shootout, in which his gun jammed.
The police chief has known about the problem for a year, but he is now taking immediate action following Saturdays shooting.
The chief sent a memo to the entire police department about the weapon problem.
On Saturday, Colon responded to a report of a man armed with a gun near 36th and Scott streets.
Colon fired his gun 13 times, and the suspect, Louis Domenech, shot back six times, refusing to drop his weapon, said police.
Both men were hit, and police have been investigating the shootout. They learned that one bullet casing had stovepiped, or jammed, in the officers weapon.

Ive had glocks for years, and I cannot envision how a glock mag could cause a stovepipe.
It just doesnt make sense.
Has to be dirty guns, limp wristing shooters or cheap reloaded ammo.
40 cal glocks are trouble waiting to happen..Im sticking with my glock 19 or my walther P99
It WAS a 40 cal.
That shooter needs to get some more range time..probably an affirmative action hire.
Solved by a brush, boresnake, and a bottle of solvent.
precisely
I wonder if most cops there even know how to clean their guns?
I’m talking about 35 years of service and still ready to go.The only plastic is in the grips.
They failed to drop free. But that was fifteen to twenty years ago. First generation Glock magazines were made of all plastic.
I’ve never had a problem.
And 95% of my .40SW is reloads.
However, I’ve been simplifying my ammo stockpile by converting my Glock 22 to 9mm with a Lone Wolf barrel.
After all, I’ve got over 3,000rnds of 9mm in the “ammo fort” :)
The first “NFML” (Non-Full Metal Lined) magazines were designed to do that.
Those crazy Europeans, with their history of magazine heel-releases, wanted to strip a mag from the grip.
The last two or three generations drop right out, no problem.
It can with other makes. I was taught to "limp wrist" a revolver, keeping my arms taught. The guy who taught me said to do that, allow the revolver to kick up, and then drop back onto target. It worked OK with revolvers, but the when I bought an automatic, it kept jamming. Two gun smiths couldn't duplicate the problem when they shot it. Neither could the third, but he asked to see me shoot. It jammed on about the third shot. He laughed, and told me to keep my wrists stiff, otherwise the pistol would fail to extract. It never jammed again.
First pistol I ever had was a Berreta, my favorite now is a Smith & Wesson MP. I’ve shot a few Glocks and I just don’t like the feel of them.
I've never bought into the "first couple of shots center mass didn't do the trick, so I'll transition to a much smaller moving target". It's interesting in training, but I'm not sure how effective it'd be in real life with all the physiological changes that supposedly occur.
Show me a Glock that’s falling apart from use or age.
They were first created in 1980.
One dealer has a range gun with over 100,000 rounds.
He hasn’t replaced a single part.
I’ve seen beat up, old, abused Glocks.
I’ve never seen a non-working Glock.
This report is bogus because we all know that Apple and Linux computers don’t crash and can’t get a virus and Glocks never jam.
cheaper for practice using the 9mm isnt it?
unless glock was selling them trade in mags dirt cheap to underbid some other company.
MUCH cheaper.
My 9mm dies are almost 17 years old.
Probably time to buy some new Dillon caribide dies.
Still tough finding bullets.
Hardly anything out there.
I got lucky last year and bought 1000 “Berry’s Bullets”, which are swaged hollow points.
Good enough for practice.
Yes. They recently bought 5000 Ruger KP95D’s.

Exactly.
If they’re not dropping, it’s better to reason that you MISSED and keep putting rounds on target - CENTER OF MASS.
Most of us don’t get 100,000rnds per year of government ammo.
The goobermint is buying Rugers for their civilian security, not military or LEO.
