Influential Los Angeles Times columnist Rosa Brooks has hung up her journalistic hat and joined the Obama administration, but not before penning a public proposal calling for some radical ideas to help bail out the failing news industry.
Brooks, who has taken up a post as an adviser at the Pentagon, advocated upping "direct government support for public media" and creating licenses to govern news operations.
"Years of foolish policies have left us with a choice: We can bail out journalism, using tax dollars and granting licenses in ways that encourage robust and independent reporting and commentary, or we can watch, wringing our hands, as more and more top journalists are laid off," she wrote in her parting column on April 9.
Brooks said this would help rescue the industry from a "death spiral" and left the government unaccountable to the journalists who must keep it honest. "[I] can't imagine anything more dangerous than a society in which the news industry has more or less collapsed," she wrote.

That’s exactly what he’s doing and we have no voice!! Everything they haven’t been able to do the past 8 years is going to be done and more. I’m waiting for whatever “crisis” he’ll conjure up to force amnesty for illegal aliens down our throats. It’s going to have to be a real doozy of a reason with so many Americans out of work...but I’m sure they’ll come up with something. It’s ALL going to happen so quickly...it is already!

Lastly I'd buy a newspaper now....IF it had full on objective news...and not full of that "stalwart of objectivity" AP stories.

Agreed. At this point, I don’t think there is much we CAN do to stop it. It seems like a runaway train, and the only thing that will eventually stop it is the ‘crash’. What form that crash will take is the part that frightens me. America has enemies (foreign AND domestic) that have been just WAITING for this day for a LONG, LONG time... They will NOT let this advantage of chaos and upheaval pass without taking advantage of it. We’ve already seen Russia, and China taking steps to advance our demise and/or take advantage of our weaknesses at present (China especially with their ANNOUNCED economic war — remember the threat back in the Fall of 2007, Russia with Putin’s ANNOUNCED plans to try to put back together the USSR.... Just for two examples...).
Honestly, I could probably write a book about how I see things lining up right now, and I know I’m not the only one... I just keep praying I’m wrong because no matter what we are in for some VERY dark days...

That is the bottom line. These "journalists" do their jobs so poorly that they drive away the audience needed to pay for their work. Now they want to use government force to steal from productive people who don't value their work enough to pay for it voluntarily, productive people who won't even watch it for free often enough that advertisers will pay for the "journalist" to work. They are socialists, and they are evil.

You mentioned FOOD henkster... Have you not heard of the new ‘Department of Food Safety’? No, I am NOT kidding...
If you research it on some of the Organic Farming websites even the liberals have been taken aback by this. Their proposed new laws, and regulations will virtually shut down ALL Farmer’s Markets, Family Farms, and especially organic farms.
There is even talk of outlawing the sale of NON-Hybridized seeds — that is seeds that produce plants that produce their OWN seeds. Meaning that you will have to purchase seeds over, and over again every year...
Unfortunately, I’m not up-to-date on where those proposed bills stand, and it would take me a bit to research it, but there have been a lot of articles here at FR about it about a month or so ago...
So what can we the people do? We the people have power, that much I know from the quaking booties of the MSM during the tea parties. I saw a CNN reporter forced to take a break when we the people crashed their servers when we the people saw her to be a bully and an a Zero supporter at any cost.
We the people can put a pickle in the exhaust pipe of this vehicle to marginalize our movement. But we need a plan to do it. We the people have a tremendous power. How do we harness it, direct it, and effectively get everyone on the same page?
The government is a small group of people that think they know better than us. We are a huge group. They bank on us not organizing and effectively directing the energy that we possess. We the people must not tolerate an American Pravda under any circumstances.
Does anyone have ideas on how we the people might jam phone lines, send enough emails to crash servers and otherwise disrupt this assault on our freedom?

Exactly...and you know what’s really weird for me...everyone around me, my family and a few friends I have...are TOTALLY clueless...and...don’t want to hear about it. They are all going about their days, business as usual. I told them all about the Tea Party and they were completely dismissive...I got, “oh, that’s nice” and change subjects. They don’t seem to care at all and think I am overreacting or being mislead somehow. I get “you worry too much”. And you know...it’s not like they are acting all pro-Obama either...just too busy with the living of their lives to pay any attention at all to what’s going on around them. Sad really, very sad.
I forgot to say...thank you...you put into words all that I’ve been thinking and much more. As Glenn Beck says, I’m glad I’m not alone...at least here I am surrounded by people who completely understand ;)
Someone here, maybe it was on this thread...can’t remember...was talking about our need to protest in the same manner as the libs do. Unfortunately, a little civil disobedience may be necessary in order for our voices to be heard.
I know there is talk of another protest on july4th in DC...frankly I don’t think they’ll be able to pull a permit for that day...maybe they’ll protest anyway. I think we should take advantage of the momentum and do something sooner....Memorial Day...In memory of all we are losing to socialism, same locations as before...There needs to be a single focus and I just thought there would be no mistaking what a protest on “memorial day” is about. I don’t know what, but we’ve got to do something. And the “conservative” version of protesting may not be the answer.
I see the same exact thing within my own family and friends... In fact, up till about 2 months ago, my own husband (although he believed me, and he is definitely a conservative/libertarian), still thought I was “overreacting”, and things can’t possibly be “that bad”! He has “come around” now though, and actually apologized for thinking I was a little on the ‘paranoid’ side for the last decade or so! LOL
I shudder to think what would need to happen for those apathetic people among us to wake up, really... Will it be like Soviet Russia, or some of the South American countries — will we start disappearing before they take us seriously, or worse? And, even if they DO wake up before it’s too late — how will they deal with that “red pill” feeling? The shock might well just throw them into further denial, frankly... Or just make them docile, and afraid like many German citizens even after they realized exactly what was REALLY going on with Hitler?
I don’t know what to do really, except keep warning people about what I see no matter how crazy they think I am... After it all, I just come back to God though. There is only so much we as humans can do. We can educate and prepare our loved ones for what we see coming, but like leading a horse to water, no-one can MAKE someone see truth if they are willfully acting blind... All we can do at that point is pray, and I’ve been doing an AWFUL lot of that lately... Praying I’m wrong, and praying that somehow God will work on the hearts and minds of those who are actively pursuing this destruction of Freedom, as well as those who are too caught up in their daily lives to see the dangers posed...

I am in Ft Lauderdale FL. Our organizer for the Tea Party was a registered Dem. I heard her speak and the main focus was the money funneled toward business. While she did a fantastic job on the the organization, she is not our gal.
I agree that a little CD is in order. We need to descend on venues when we are not expected. We will still clean up behind ourselves and be respectful. But beyond that, I am at a loss. I am a great foot soldier but not such a great organizer. Do you have any ideas to point us in the right direction to really get the attention of those currently elected to serve us who think they are ruling us?

Precisely. Obama’s bunch would be tickled pink to be in control of all the country’s big newspapers. And they would be. This is not about “preserving” free speech. Most of these journalists don’t have a clue what that actually means.
There apparently is no limit to the untalented pool from which the Obama regime can pick their mentally ill staff.
Just change the name Marquis de Sade for Obama and you know what I mean.
