Influential Los Angeles Times columnist Rosa Brooks has hung up her journalistic hat and joined the Obama administration, but not before penning a public proposal calling for some radical ideas to help bail out the failing news industry.
Brooks, who has taken up a post as an adviser at the Pentagon, advocated upping "direct government support for public media" and creating licenses to govern news operations.
"Years of foolish policies have left us with a choice: We can bail out journalism, using tax dollars and granting licenses in ways that encourage robust and independent reporting and commentary, or we can watch, wringing our hands, as more and more top journalists are laid off," she wrote in her parting column on April 9.
Brooks said this would help rescue the industry from a "death spiral" and left the government unaccountable to the journalists who must keep it honest. "[I] can't imagine anything more dangerous than a society in which the news industry has more or less collapsed," she wrote.

During the last federal assault on the Second Amendment, one of our arguments took the form of comparing the right to bear arms with the freedom of the press. Their importance in maintaining our free republic demands the government keep its hands off.
For example, "You don't need a license to publish a newspaper, so why should you be required to have a license to own a gun?"
It appears that the adherents of a "living Constitution" are now turning that once-convincing argument inside out and backward.

1) She takes a government job as an adviser to the Pentagon. As an advisor to the Pentagon, she suggests bailing out newspapers, using tax dollars. I thought the Pentagon did war fighting. Stupid me.
2) She wrote an article a few years back calling George Bush “Our Torturer in Chief”. Look it up.
3) Appointing a left-wing newspaper hack from the LA Times to be an adviser to the Pentagon is a dereliction of duty.

“Bailout is certainly the right word for someone who appears to have no relevant national security qualifications for the position. She does though have experience working as Special Counsel for George Soros’s Open Society Institute in New York, and as a former adviser to Harold Koh, the hugely controversial nominee for Legal Adviser to the State Department.”

It’s the Soviet model. Military units were assigned “political officers” whose job was to ensure that the units stayed loyal to the regime. The political officers would maintain networks of informants. Any officer or soldier with the “wrong” opinions would be sent to the Gulag, like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was.
Given the number of Republicans in the military, ensuring the loyalty of military units, and purging them of “politically incorrect” elements will be a major objective of the Obama regime. Reporters are expert in getting information by making the gullible think that the reporter is his friend and can be talked to.

I practice criminal law as an attorney in a suburban, reliably Republican county. Yesterday I defended a client at a jury trial for various weapons charges. Of the jury panel of 20 persons, only ONE admitted owning a gun and only FIVE admitted ever firing one. Virtually ALL of them agreed that the government should prohibit certain classes of persons from gun ownership. Most believed that they didn’t need guns as the police have them. When asked about the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, I got blank stares.
The American people are being turned into sheep. The government won’t take the guns. They will gradually talk enough of us into giving them up.

When the Communist Manifesto was re-released on its 150th anniversary in 1998, Ehrenreich celebrated the event. She noted that in producing the Manifesto as a commercial product, capitalists were — as Lenin had once predicted – providing the rope that eventually would hang them.
In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Ehrenreich wrote that the real threats to America were not Islamic terrorists, but poverty, illiteracy, and environmental degradation. In an interview with On the Page, she recoiled at the characterization of the 9/11 terrorists as evil:
“The word evil always makes me nervous. It’s not just a more intense form of bad; it’s usually a signal that we’ve stopped thinking…. The real challenge is to look at the terrible acts and try to work our way towards an understanding of how a human being might undertake them.”
The interviewer asked, “Which would involve some level of compassion?” Ehrenreich replied, ”Maybe not compassion, but an empathetic ability.”

What is a writer for the LA Times doing with a job at the Pentagon? Is this payback for getting the Times to not release that video of the Kenyan? This can’t keep going on. We need to really start making a lot of noise. That little Nancy SOB is out of control now.
The can’t force their views via the “Fairness Doctrine” as it’s too blatant, but if they convince the public that this “bailout” is needed they can achieve the control they wish without any laws being passed, or ANY WAY for the PEOPLE to even OBJECT (as if our Reps listen, now???).
It’s not a matter of “what if”, honestly. Obama is a SELF-DESCRIBED collectivist/Marxist/Communist/Fascist with his own personal messiah-complex twist. What is one of the FIRST things ANY dictator does to cement power??? SILENCE THE OPPOSITION.
These Communists within our government aren’t stupid enough to physically take over these media outlets ala Chavez, that would be too obvious (and even then there were Democrats on DU that praised him for doing it...). Hidden in other bills they have already sought to give the President Executive Privilege to SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE INTERNET at will without oversight (I apologize that I don’t know the exact status of THAT bill, but they stopped talking about the Internet part, and are concentrating on the “electrical grid” “terrorist” threat portion as the Internet portion made us howl immediately. BTW: Conveniently there was an article citing Russia and China for hacking into our power grid RIGHT BEFORE the political tactic switch on that specific bill... TOO COINCIDENTAL!)
The leaders in Washington have already seen what the people will accept — the LIE that these businesses need to be “saved” by placing the government in control. They have now PROVEN that economic terrorism WORKS on the American people... And they will use this until it no longer works. How much they will achieve remains to be seen, and can only be stopped if people realize that these bailouts are a fancy way to hide “Nationalization” of private industry, and businesses.

A FREE, and INDEPENDENT press is VITALLY important to the health of our Republic, and for the prevention of tyranny. It’s already to the point that the bias in our press has lead to the ability of these fascist/communists to brainwash the public... How many Americans will bother to check whether the station they turn on for their evening news is owned by Washington, first? How many Americans will honestly even KNOW this has happened... Like the press is going to report on ANYTHING related to THEIR OWN BAILOUT honestly?
Are these papers going to place a notice on every page stating that they are partially owned by the Federal Government? (Yeah, right...). Do people even realize how many of these HUGE media companies own their LOCAL DAILY papers? If someone said (for instance) McClatchy received bailout funds would people realize that there are NUMEROUS papers that are owned by that company? It’s not like the individual papers would be listed in the bailout bill, either... (I think you get the point...).
Funny, a man on the street in Germany 1933 said the same thing.
