Philip Swanton does not like wives and girlfriends 'offering advice' and interrupting the male bonding between customer and cutter.
So a thick black indelible marker stripe bisects the floor of his shop in the Clifton area of Bristol, marked No Ladies Beyond This Line.
Mr Swanton, 60, whose wife Kathryn (corr) works with him in the shop, says he has nothing against the 'Ladies', but just wants some space where men can do what men do. "Men like to come here and have their hair cut without the intrusion of a lady putting her oar in" he said.

well if the barber chooses to cut your hair, i am guessing it’s because he is not adverse to a paying customer and would not object. i think the point of this story is not wanting wifey standing over his shoulder telling him how to do his job as far as cutting her husband’s hair.
Well then she should go off and do what she has to do while her husband is getting his hair cut .... or ... plan on doing what she wants on another day .... that way they’re out of each others hair for the day (no pun intended) ....
Yeah, I don’t understand these women who drag their hubby’s to the clothes store every time they need a new outfit. Those poor guys are SO bored and it makes me so uncomfortable to have them near the dressing room. That’s one of the reasons I buy most of my clothes online.
I was at the hair salon when a woman came in to get her hair done and had her husband and two small kids with her. They “antsed” around the waiting area, FINALLY, dad strapped them in the stroller and took them to walk around the mall. Another woman and i looked at each other just APPALLED that she would haul them in with her. What the heck is the point of that?? daddy stays home and bonds with the kids for two hours while mom can have some ME TIME and get her hair done. That was just an atrocity right there! LOL!
Btw, I'm a woman and I don't mind at all that men have their hair cut at the salon I frequent. I also don't mind at all if they prefer a barber.

I only make suggestions. It’s boring though. Riding shotgun for woman style clothes shopping takes so long. Guys tend to be really surgical strike when clothes shopping, I can grab 4 shirts and 2 pairs of pants in 10 minutes head to the booth pick the winners and we’re out. Women have that whole “this might go good with that thing we saw 20 minutes ago on the other side of the store but didn’t grab let’s go get it” thing. It wouldn’t be so bad if I was just playing sherpa, I could turn off my higher brain functions and just follow, but nooooo she actually wants my input. I like Penney’s best, they have chairs near the dressing room, husband chairs I call them.
You just watch too much TV.

I am not remotely concerned about them being near the dressing room, but they are quite often standing right in front of where i want to look, etc. I have ranted at Talbots to the salesladies about it and they have told me how many women will not buy clothes unless the hubby is there to approve or disapprove. i find that unbelievable. i basically buy stuff and try on at home etc and return what doesn’t fit, look right etc. anyway. A habit that i developed when shopping with kids in strollers etc.

I love getting my husband's input, and yes, even have him with me when I shop, although I do most of my shopping online. The only thing that matters to me is that he likes what I wear, and that it's comfortable.
If he demanded that I wear certain styles it would be a different matter.
Otherwise, I'm not that concerned. As long as he's happy, I'm happy.
We’re mostly sleeping when we’re near the dressing room. But it does really suck when there’s no seating, kind of does force us to act like stalkers.
I normally don’t try on at the store, but if i did, i would put the purse on the floor or hang it on the hook in the dressing room. I do hope you are being facetious in asking that question?? That can’t possibly be a legit reason women haul me into stores with them is it?
Well it wouldn’t be the first time that i think more like a man, as i like the Three Stooges and Monty Python also and i have been told right here on FR that that is more man-like, LOL! but i do not have the mentality you describe as women’s clothes shopping, i can walk into a dept and know instantly if there is anything there i am interested in or not and walk right out if not, and if so will consider if i have anything else to wear it with and then pick up the size and go.
It's just boring. I do like to go fishing and I like to garden. Shopping at a mall is time spent indoors, at a place I usually would rather not be.
I guess I dress for me and if my husband happens to approve it’s gravy. I am pretty decisive about what i like and don’t like, and there aren’t even a lot of diff stores I will shop in. Talbots is where i get most everything. heck, i don’t even like clothes shopping with other women! i know what i want, or what i like, when i see it, and that’s that. I will shop with my teenaged daughters, but then it’s to help them pick out stuff like prom dresses etc. and Lord knows, i am the one paying! LOL!
Me, too. Unless it's an outfit to wear to his company Christmas party, he doesn't need to be there. It shows how weak some women are. *sigh*
i mostly shop if i have an occasion where i need something, i don’t shop for the fun of it, certainly. But again, with my daughters it is fun and we will usually have lunch while we are out.
I don’t like shopping much w/ other women either. I’m like you. I know what I want and if I don’t find it, I want to be able to leave quickly and go somewhere else that might have what I need.
