The idea of secession gets under the skin of liberals like few other things can. And this is so because secession trumps their power grabs. When someone like Perry says his state has the right to leave the union if the federal government doesnt uphold their end of the bargain, its a stark reminder that the federal government exists by and for the states, not the other way around.
And Perry has been open to the thought of breaking with the union as a last resort for some time now. Just last week, on April 9, he announced his support for Texas House Concurrent Resolution 50 (HCR 50), one of the many Tenth Amendment resolutions currently being passed at the state level...

I’m with you!
“secessionists are traitors”
On the contrary, I think that the federal government is a traitor. They have betrayed the American people. They have forgotten that they work for us.
They don’t care about the people they are supposed to be serving. It’s all about them and advancing their Marxist agenda!
Oh, I agree about Soetoro, congress, and the Omniparty, but I just really don’t believe that any state will ever work up enough gumption to actually secede, but again, I am impressed that someone is even mentioning it in an official capacity.
when you get right down to it there really isn’t a reason for Texas to be a state. What does the Fed do for Texas that it couldn’t do for itself?
Well, okay, but why? As I see it, the federal government has long and aggressively been in breach of contract, Constitution-wise. I'm not advocating dissolution, just wondering for discussion's sake whether "traitor" could just as easily be applied to congress/WH?
I believe that we cannot use the Civil War (or the War Between the States, to be more accurate) as precedent of what would happen today, if a state chose to lawfully secede.
In the 1860s, even if you believe the war was all about “states rights” and not slavery (which I do not), still, the northern states felt a strong sense of moral superiority, absent today, and, people were much more regional in their loyalties at that time than they are now.
Texas for example, may well have the largest number of its citizens in the military of any state. Would they be willing to fight their own? Would an Obama, (or a Carter or Clinton, for that matter) have the raw GUTS necessary to invade a state which peacefully tried to leave? I don’t think so....
We are at an entirely different stage of development than during the US Civil War, and we should not automatically assume the president and and federal congress would react the same way as Lincoln and the Republicans did in 1861.
In any event, I think it would take a very serious crises, bombings, invasion—even war already begun—to bring about secession. There is just too much money involved to make it a viable option otherwise.
“Secessionists are traitors”
That’s what King George III said.
There is the 48% of the north that obama does not have.
I’m embarrassed that people are discussing something which is illegal, would destroy the United States, plunge the United States into war. I don’t know how Perry could have been so stupid, this plays straight into the hands of Napolitano’s memo. It is so sad to see conservatives crapping all over themselves and acting like idiots.
I support Texas, I oppose Obama, I want to see a conservative Congress and President, but to say that I am embarrassed and sadenned that conservatives could discuss something so wrong is an understatement.
Perry is going to be marginalized if he doesn’t back away from what I thought was just a boast or sarcasm.
I won’t post anymore for now, I’m pissed and the people here who want to rationalize something so insane will just marginalize and destroy conservatism.
I’m not addressing anything here but secession which obviously is wrong, and yes I would sign up to help put it dowwn in a heartbeat.
look, becoming a communist country is what is traitorous, we don’t have to go down with the ship
When in the course of Human Events...
I love this issue, secession, because it brings out the Yankee Federal Bootlickers, such as yourself, into the light. We are idealogical enemies. Only a bloodthirsty Yankee would equate secession with war and violence. Secession doesn't have to mean war.
watta obamarobot you are
secessionists are traitors
These days merely quoting the Founding Fathers gets you put on a watch list. Just who are the traitors?
Besides that, who would you think would be doing the arresting? Plus, once the first one gets arrested, you really think the others are going to sit home and wait for their turn to be arrested?
And don't count on the military to start killing their fellow countrymen, friends and family. It would be better just to let those who want to leave to go in peace.
Red States seceding from the Union gets under their skin, but Liberals advocated Blue States seceding from the Union shortly after President Bush was reelected. Hypocrisy, thy name is Liberal.
How about a lack of knowledge on current events of which I do give a flying crap about?
In that pic of the bow, look at everybody laughing at Bambi going wtf is he doing?
Ominparty! I like that. Rush was saying today that we don’t need a third party, but I say we need a second party!
Omniparty.
