The seal is broken on seceding from the Union and is now mainstream discussion.

What is the root of the secessionist movement? The driving force at the grass roots level is of course money. Many Americans are rightly disturbed by the transfer of their wealth, and the wealth of their children, to companies that made risky investments, or were poorly managed. This is new territory for the government. The transfer started under George W. Bush with his bank bailout and auto makers bailouts, and the Obama administration has really poured on the spending with additional bailouts and stimulus packages. Citizens of more fiscally conservative states are finding that there money is being redirected from their pockets, and sent to other states.

In years past politicians from both parties have used the guilt factor to increase spending for the "needy". This tempers the backlash from the populace as they realize they are to sacrifice a new boat, or nicer home, for the greater good of society. Today, citizens are being asked to sacrifice their children's education, vacations, and even the home they are in, so that money can be transferred from their wallets to multi-billion dollar corporations.

When we add more government controls and regulations on everything from cigarettes, to fast food and guns, we begin to see the problem. Government is now coming at everyone at some level, over some issue. This piling on is causing those fringe secessionist movements to became mainstream very quickly.

Lincoln made it clear that the North was fighting the war to preserve the Union. On August 22, 1862, just a few weeks before signing the Proclamation and after he had already discussed a draft of it with his cabinet in July, he wrote a letter in response to an editorial by Horace Greeley of the New York Tribune which had urged complete abolition:

I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.

I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free. [5]

Your post does nothing to refute the fact that the South was fighting to preserve slavery.

Historical facts are one thing. Historical facts that serve to establish your point are quite another animal.

please reread my #374. you are SMARTER than you post.

also, you are married to a "lady of colour", who also knows the TRUTH about "the filth that flowed down from the north" to do UNSPEAKABLE war crimes against Blacks (both slave & freeborn), Jews, AmerIndians, Roman Catholics, Asians, Latinos and the "poorest of the poor whites". slave-OWNERS were SPARED the atrocities that were visited upon the minorities/poor of the south because they were PROTECTED from HARM by the DAMNyankee High Command.

in all too many cases the ONLY thing that the DAMNyankees freed slaves from was BEING ALIVE!!!

be sure and ask her about what was done to MY family, just because they were "other than white persons" - she knows the whole, disgusting, story in detail.(i would NOT recommend it as a bedtime story for small children.)

in other words, you don't think it's DISHONEST & a LIE BY OMISSION to avoid talking about the DOCUMENTED FACTS that the yankees/lincoln/congress cared NOTHING at ALL about "the plight of the slaves" & NEVER had any intention in 1861 of FREEING ANY slaves immediately or EVER??? AND that the ONLY reason that "DIShonest abe & his merry band of thieves" persecuted the war against the new dixie nation was to "preserve the union" at ANY COST including destroying The Constitution. (the DAMNyankee positron reminds me of the RVN-era officer's comment that : "We destroyed the village to save it".)

also i note that you have also OMMITTED the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of WAR CRIMES & CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY that were committed against UNARMED civilians (especially NON-whites) by the union army.

Unless I attach all of your talking points, presumably in that unreadable trainwreck format of yours, then I’ve lied by omission, is that it?

The claim that Lincoln “NEVER had any intention in 1861 of FREEING ANY slaves immediately or EVER” is irrelevant insofar as it is true. Once the Proclamation was signed, the South was fighting to preserve slavery (as if somehow they were not before).

The rest is all noise to obfuscate the South’s despicable fight to preserve human slavery.
