Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

I was there on the Denver CO capital steps.

Also on the steps about 15 feet away was a guy who seemed familiar. I think, and this is only my impression because I’m not sure, he was the TSA agent who checked me through at DIA a couple months ago.

The one for Grand Rapids, Mich. just ended. I would put the number at 3000 easy, and that may be an undercount. The turnout was huge, with people coming in the whole time.

I attended Philadelphia's party. I estimated 700 at 1:00p but many people were stopping by for brief periods which suggeste that possibly 1,000 atended. The Stinky Inky (AKA the Bankrupt Philadelphia Inquirer) estimated 200 people with 20 hand drawn signs. The police were in attendance and very cordial with the crowd. One officer commented to me that this was not a crowd they expected any trouble from. He was correct. There were no overturned cars, broken store windows or looters. It was a cold, rainy day in Philly. Actually, a second party is scheduled for Saturday at the Liberty Bell. Fox news also estimated “several hundred”.

We attended the Baton Rouge Tea Party. The numbers were higher than the planners expected. I’d guess there were two thousand to three thousand folks there with LOTS of great signs.

Palm Desert, CA - probably 1200 at the stage area during the first hour - which is when wifey and I had to leave...but heading back through the park, cars were still jammed in the entry roads and people on foot were still streaming in.

Hence, I gotta guesstimate a good 2000 - phenomenal, given as our local media gave virtually no mention of the event.

I made it to the rally in Jefferson City, MO at the capital. A couple of hundred people at 3:00 when it kicked off. Hopefully the final tally was much more than that.

Santa Ana, CA - At least 1500 40 minutes into a 2 hour event.

I am assuming the sum total for the total event to be closer to 3000 or more.

I get the Bulletin delivered. Great paper. I wrote an E-Mail to the Philadelphia Inquirer writer and reminded him that the report he wrote reminded me of why I dropped his stinking rag years ago.
