In this blue state, that is a positive thing! :)
I got to the capital at 1100, dropped off my signs and banners and discovered I killed my batteries in my loudspeaker, so I went off to Walgreens and spent way too much for 4 lantern battteries and got back to the rally.
At 1145 I started leading the crowd in chants and public displays of disdain at the spending policies of the last and present administration and encouraged the crowd to chant with me!
From the sounds of it, they did quite well!
Our leader, Rick R. did a great job as Emcee.
Our first speaker was the talk show host Dan Lovallo who laid it out about the spending practices of the Connecticut government, both republican and democrat and their risky schemes they impress upon us.
Next was Bob Jacks, a local business owner who started one of the most successful truck stops in the New England area and local hotel, too. He spoke on the need for risk in work and how the bailouts eliminated the risk and replaced it with pork and government subsidy and took away initiative.
I forgot most speakers, One was Susan Kniepp, the former mayor of East Hartford who spoke on the increase in spending and it;s affect on rising taxes.
The last formal speaker was WTIC radio talk show host Jim Vicevich who hammered the Pols with truth and facts!

s I said earlier on another thread, the media will hide or keep the planes on the ground, but will not show anyone the aerial shots of these tea parties.
There are traffic choppers and planes so there should be hundreds of photos of the thousands true-Americans, in all markets. How few will the nightly news show us?
I’ll be interested to read, as reports come in, if the Code Pink whackos or any ACORN nuts disrupted.

Great job RB. Local radio talk show hosts had terrific speeches but the best was saved for last with Americans from all walks of life speaking to take back our government!!!!

I was there and to borrow a phrase from a current resident of the White House “I’m proud of my country.”
I think the best comment I heard was we should take up a collection to fight illiteracy.........specifically illiteracy of those in congress so they might be able to read the bills they vote on and maybe even the constitution.

Great turnout today in Hartford and great job JimB.
Awesome turnout at Hartford, was very inspiring - 5,000!!!!
Speakers were great - audience was great - State Police were great!!!
It was more than 5000 people.
It was 5000 really angry conservatives.
Great job. I had to leave at 12:45, wish I could have stayed longer.

My husband zelig and I attended yesterday's Tea Party in Hartford on the steps of our beautiful state Capitol, but mega-kudos go to RaceBannon (as usual!) who did an excellent job in "emceeing" the event. He warmed up the crowd (estimated to be up to 5,000!) with great chants like: "It's not their money!" and "Hey Chris Dodd: SWIM TO CUBA!" LOL
Speakers included Jim Vicevich, "Republitarian" host of WTIC radio's "Sound Off Connecticut", Dan Lovallo, conservative talk show host from WDRC 1360, Susan Kniep (a former Republican mayor of East Hartford) of the Federation of Connecticut Taxpayer Organizations, Bob Jacks, a successful small business owner, and a group of veterans from a motorcycle club, who asked for a poignant moment of peace for all fallen veterans (you could hear a pin drop!).
There were many passionate speeches by the grassroots... people who just wanted to step up to the podium and speak briefly about why they were at the Tea Party.
Rich R. was the official emcee of the event, and I believe the man who pulled the Hartford Tea Party together... kudos, Rick!
The most passionate speech surely came from the inspirational Sonia, one of Jim Vicevich's listeners (Video of Sonia speaking here, she is the woman in green). Another Vicevich listener who spoke was John, who - if memory serves me right - fought in Vietnam as a sniper, then volunteered serve three terms in Iraq!
There were people in colonial garb, bell ringers, a few pitchforks, many clever signs, women with teabag earrings, three pink "porkulous" pigs showed up. One guy had a red hammer and sickle communist flag with "Obamunism" attached to it (LOL), and there were lots of American and Gadsden/US Navy Jack "Don't Tread On Me" flags flapping in the stiff wind, and the sun smiled on us (rain was originally in the forecast).
Everyone we spoke to said they knew of at least 5-10 more people who would have been at the Tea Party if they didn't have to work.
