A breakthrough study of fluctuations in sea levels the last time Earth was between ice ages, as it is now, shows that oceans rose some three meters in only decades due to collapsing ice sheets.
The findings suggest that such an scenario -- which would redraw coastlines worldwide and unleash colossal human misery -- is "now a distinct possibility within the next 100 years," said lead researcher Paul Blanchon, a geoscientist at Mexico's National University.
The study, published by the science journal Nature, will appear in print Thursday.
Rising ocean water marks are seen by many scientists as the most serious likely consequence of global warming.
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted in 2007 that sea levels will rise by up to 59 centimeters (23 inches) before 2100 due simply to the expansion of warmer ocean waters.
This relatively modest increase is already enough to render several small island nations uninhabitable, and to disrupt the lives of tens of millions of people living in low-lying deltas, especially in Asia and Africa.

Environmentalists now fall into that protected class of women, gays and minorities where they are never held accountable for their wrong actions, they can never be blamed, questioned or called into doubt. They are like spoiled yuppie children, indulging in lies and awful behavior and never receiving even a mild slap on the wrist.
Charles Rangel is immune from numerous tax scandals and rent control abuses, Barney Frank slept with a man who was a senior manager at Fannie Mae which Franks was supposed to be overseeing, and this is not worthy of reporting. Maxine Waters and Rev Sharpton can make the most vile of charges against people but they are never asked to present evidence – because in our non-accountability world they don’t have to. (The Republican Party was responsible for Jack Abramoff, but Bernie Madoff gave tons of cash to all Democrats including Schumer and Hillary - and not a word is mentioned. Were paid politicians protecting him from government scrutiny? No reporting.)
It was very interesting when Governor McGreevy of NJ was about to be exposed on multiple corruption fronts he immediately came out as a gay man to draw sympathy and protection – as if he had been fighting for civil rights his whole selfish life.
The greenies have been exaggerating and outright lying, scaring kids to death while none of their doomsday scenarios are coming true. (Where are the massive crop failures and the millions dead - never happened. Islands gone, lower Manhattan flooded - Malthusian threats that are just not provable - and most likely not true.) So they can lie with impunity and have schoolgirls in Ohio crying because they think the ocean will flood their state if they leave the lights on. The more outrageous the claim of impending doom the less likely the media will question it - and the green liars are never called to account. Why isn’t AL Gore excoriated for selling renewable energy equipment with Kleiner Perkins while screaming like a madman that the world is melting down and to be saved it needs to start buying renewable energy equipment. You can lie, double deal, use a Nobel Prize to enrich yourself and no one will question it, but don’t accept any grant money from Exxon because then you are a climate criminal.
It is all hypocrisy - with no accountability. It is becoming easier and easier to simply dismiss the silly environmental rants because they are not being critically evaluated, and they have been outrageously wrong in the past without reprimand - because they are spoiled children.
But as manmade climate change kicks in, scientists worry that rising temperatures could create a similar environment, triggering a runaway disintegration of the continent-sized ice blocks that are already showing signs of distress.
How about this, Let's just pass laws in our own countries forbidding any construction at any foundation elevation lower than 15 feet above current sea level with in 100 miles of an ocean coast line.
It would stifle development, hurt the economy and affect our vacation endeavors, but hey, it would save lives 100 years from now in their world. And it might actually cost less.

The upper estimates I've seen on the "ones" war against coal for electricity could cost the average family an extra $3600/year in additional electric costs. Add in gas taxes, fuel taxes for carbon credits and you have massive amounts of wealth being transferred to somebody else. It's not about propaganda, it's about taking money out of your wallet and giving to someone else like you never dreamed about.

A completely misleading statement. The island of Tuvalu is considered to be at greatest risk. Its sea levels are estimated to be rising at 0.07 mm/year (it would take 360 years to rise one inch). El Nino effects completely overshadow any "warming" effects.
